Hey, I read about that on the bus this morning!

Personally, I don't think it's THAT special. Pilots are required to go thorough emergency training for every plausible situation (thought not necessarily possible), so it's expected that he lands safely. Though the fact that the plane neither sank nor broke apart deserves kudos.

This is almost too funny. The conspiracy people are at it again.

Quote:
Russian Military Intelligence reports circulating in the Kremlin today state that an attempt to shoot down an American passenger plane over New York City carrying some of the top officials from the United States largest bank, and largest financial services company in the World, Bank of America, failed when the pilot quickly reacted to his crippled and burning aircraft by landing it in the Hudson river extinguishing the spreading flames and saving the lives of all aboard.

agreed. Pull the plane out, put 2 new engines on it, and put it back in the air!

Not quite that simple, mh. The plane remained floating long enough to evacuate because "ditch" covers closed. These exist because of research of other forced water landings.

The engines probably came off due to the impact with the water, and had they not, it's possible the wings might have come off instead.

Yes, pilots are trained for this type of emergency landing, along with many other types, but there's a big difference between a controlled training exercise and the real thing. I imagine we've all been through fire drills, but how much has that helped when the room was actually full of smoke?

Or, another example, I TEACH First Aid, so I KNOW not to move someone who might have a neck injury, but when my daughter and I were in a car accident, the first thing I did was get out of the car. PLUS, I didn't stabilize her head or even tell her to remain in the car and wait for the EMT's.

The pilot may have just "done what he's been trained to do" but he did all the steps RIGHT. That makes him a hero.

Keeping a cool head and coming up with a workable game plan AND exit strategy! God was definitely the co-pilot on that flight!

Heroic maneuvers, but if everything went right then where is the story. The media seems to romanticize airplane incidents beyond their gravity. Imagine if the same amount of air time was spent on buses that skid off the road or strike another vehicle.

I'm sure it was pretty exciting to see a plane land in the hudson for new yorkers, but I think we're a little over it here on the left coast.

Re: Flight 1549's Pilot makes flawless emergency landing on Hudson River

I don't think skidding off the road is the right comparison......skidding off a sheer cliff maybe, nothing can compare to falling out of the air!

The last airliner that made an unplanned stop on the river with Joe Passenger on it didn't have such a favorable outcome with only 5 of I think 78 surviving.

I don't understand what you mean by the left coast is over it. Sorry that is your opinion. We on the right coast have been bombarded with the same media coverage and I guess I just speak for myself, but my heart is still joyous.

Here is another Cathy tidbit...I have a brother-in-law who is a pilot for Delta.

One thing this tired old world can never have enough of is HEROS...
...just my opinion...no offense 40's...I would sure sit on da curb wit you and drink a 40!

Maybe not, but most passengers should have been safe.
