I would think it would be more of a damper on the day if our Sun got eaten - than a toilet overflowing.
Just me. ;)

A little OT ... but that doesn't seem to be a problem around here ... ;) :D
What if the Sun suddenly was gone .... instantly. Which would happen first: A.) It would get dark. B.) The Earth, no longer kept in orbit by the Sun's gravity, would veer out of the Solar System on a tangent to the Sun at the time of it's vanishing. Gets to the question of which is faster: light or gravity?

All of the above :D
Technically both would happen at the same time! Its just that b) would take time, and wouldn't be noticable right away! Yet again, if yo think about it, I think there are still "unknown" forces keeping the earth in orbit, and not just the sun! |

Well, the unknown is given a name - gravity. We don't really understand gravity except that the more mass something has, the more gravity it has. However, gravity could theoretically travel faster than light - or perhaps it doesn't really "travel" at all.

Well, you're doubly confused! ;) Astrology is about "reading" the star formations and planets to find out whether to go outside today ...
Astronomy is about studying stars and space for scientifc interests ...

BTW, Its strange when you think about it, there could always be another "unknown" force acting on the planets on the universe! Think Black Holes..........Its something that until now scientists are searching for clues on.......... What forces, and what happens that makes all objects that run into black holes just ............."disapear"!!!!!!!!!? Another thing, We know that the force of gravity exerted by the sun is whats holding all the planets, in their orbits, but whats causing the Universe to hold shape together? Strange Questions!........But they're in a way not answered yet! There are just some things that humans will never be able to find out, and thats something we have to face. After all, there is always a limit to our minds! |

Another interesting thing to read up on is dark matter. And there's also dark energy. That stuff gets to be over my head.

Well it stands to reason that the earth has been here for millions and millions of years, so I would have to go with the 3rd theory, because we already have a pretty good idea that the earth will eventually get poed and kick us to kingdom come anyway.
