Develop mentally

Hey fellow TSFers!

As you've probably known, I've taken up the sport of bowling and have improved pretty quickly, but when I'm in a tournament everything screws up completely. I just can't bring myself to concentrate. I miss easy spares, and totally shoot off-target. I don't really feel nervous, but just can't make good shots and my game gradually deteriorates. I guess my nervousness bypasses my emotions and go directly to the part of my brain that controls my coordination.

Anyway, have any of you ever felt this way? If so, what do you do to combat it? I know a little nervousness isn't a bad thing, but I don't want it to take over control of my body!

Re: Develop mentally

Stage fright,,you choke at the last minute, it happens. You need to calm
down, dont think to much into it. Be one with the lane A few drinks
might not hurt.. With time and repeitition the stage fright should go
away.

Re: Develop mentally

you could always try a nice soothing cup of tea

First rule about getting over nervousness is to understand that it's all just a game. Come to terms with the idea that you are there to enjoy yourself. That win or lose it really doesn't matter. Of course you want to win and show everybody how brilliant you are .. but you'll never do that all the time that your anxiety about making a fool of yourself takes control of your brain ..

Like I said to my kids all through schooling .. it's NOT the GRADE that counts .. it's whether you tried hard enough and gave your best .. just be proud to have done everything you could and if you fail after that .. never mind .. try againa nd see if you can improve ..

the only person who is really "looking" to see if you are making a fool of yourself is YOU!! so turn yourself off and enjoy!!
