Bring back the wood shed
I think it's time to bring back the wood shed or send the kids to cut their own "switch".
ANOTHER youngster (4 yrs. old) gets mad and shoots the babysitter this time! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28512318/ |

4 year olds has the tendency to get into anything that is supposed to be inaccessible and nailed down. Who do you think opens the child proof pill bottles for most adults :-)

Re: Bring back the wood shed
I am just so blown away to see angry kids grabbing guns. I mean it's not like guns are something new to society. Did kids 30, 40, 50, 100 yrs ago shoot parents or caregivers?
Good gosh, I looked at my grandson who is 8 when an article was posted about an 8 yr old shooting (and killing) his Dad & Uncle I believe it was. And I thought, he is just a LITTLE boy. Although in that incident it was stated that the 8 yr. old had been receiving beatings until he swore to himself he would put an end to it. But a 4 yr old. WOW Could it be that the guns are of more interest to them (children) BECAUSE they don't grow up around them? Because they don't grasp the finality of death, you don't get to restart the game or have multiple lives before the final "game over" death? Or BECAUSE through the media guns are shown to be used against another human being rather than to hunt game to feed the family? Last edited by Cathy95820; 01-12-2009 at 01:04 AM. |

Re: Bring back the wood shed
One of my friend's parents had an interesting way: while he was still young, the dad allowed him to hear the gun fired (in a safe setting, of course). From that point on, he was scared of them.
Knew never to touch them (and had plenty of opportunities - his dad was a police officer and his gun was in reach every morning during breakfast). It got rid of the curiosity factor! Gun = very loud + ears hurt is better than gun = mysterious/dangerous thing daddy says I can't touch. (Don't kids just want things more when they are off limits? ) No laughing matter though. I don't think a home with a 4 year old should have a gun that doesn't have a lock with the key completely inaccessible to the kids if one at all...

Re: Bring back the wood shed
When I was young and single I had a rifle and even though there were only adults around I still kept the bolt away from the rifle and before I got married I sold the rifle because I was worried about my future kids getting hold of it and play with it.
