A bit cold today!

At -9c this frosty morning with wall to wall blue sky, I took my camera for a walk. No snow, just frost...

Re: A bit cold today!

Those pictures are awesome. I was wondering if that was the spider frozen in the web or if it was one of his snacks.

My ex-father-in-law used to work for US Steel in the taconite plant in Iron Mountain, Minnesota. It gets so cold in that region that they plug their cars in at night to keep them warm so they will start in the morning. One of his cars had to spend the winter in the parking lot and wait for warmer weather so he could drive it home.

Definitely some very excellent photos there, Donald - and in a beautiful part of England too

Thank you for sharing

Re: A bit cold today!

I just read its been 60 below in alaska this past week. Just look at the weekend forcast and they are having a warm spell, -24f during the day and -44f at night.

Anyway great pictures. The top one with the church looks like a Lutheran church in a town I grew up in.

It is the Odcombe village church. 'CoE'

History lesson about Odcombe:

Odcombe, a tiny village, is well known for one of it's elders of the Elizabethan times. In 1608 Thomas Coryate walked (yes, walked) from Odcombe all round Europe (France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany & Netherlands and other places)

On his return and in 1611, he published a travelogue 'Coryates Crudities'

During his travels, he noticed that some 'foreigners' were eating food with a two pronged implement. In Merry England at that time, the knife was the tool for placing food into the mouth. Tom bought back a sample of the pronged thingy and introduced the FORK to the English dining table!

The European jaunt was only a rehearsal for his next epic perambulation:

1612-1614 - travelled to Constantinople and the Holy Lands.
1615-1616 - walked through Turkey, Persia, and Moghul India to Emperor Jahangir's court in Ajmer, Gujarat.
Sept. 1617 - at invention of Sir Thomas Roe, visited imperial court at Mandu, Malwa.
Nov. 1617 - leaves for Surat in Gujarat
Dec. 1617 - died of dysentery in Surat.

End of history lesson!

(In Google Earth, Fly to 'Odcombe, UK')
