New Monopoly Board

In September, a new "updated" board was released. The changes are:

Change in color of the first block of properties from purple to brown

Removal of the Pay 10% option on the Income Tax space (because people can't do math? seriously, I don't mind changing the color, but when the gameplay is changed entirely, that's undermining the integrity of the game. I know the 10% option is very rarely used, but it was a nice option for if you have only $1500 at the beginning.)

Increasing of the Luxury Tax to $100 (again, why undermine the integrity of this game?)

Now I'm going to keep my old board and treasure it for as long as possible. Hopefully it'll become a collector's piece someday.

Re: New Monopoly Board

your link does not work but hopefully Monopoly Classic will remain on the market. I wonder if there will be a card where the poorest players help bail out the rich players when they have financial troubles.

also: i don't think the old one will be made anymore, as this is now the "standard" version.

Re: New Monopoly Board

LOL! Cathy, do you play Monopoly? I've seen older boards from the 70s and 80s but have never had one.

Re: New Monopoly Board

I still have the board my family used when I was a kid (long time ago now-1960's) the pieces are die cast metal - I always use the boot - just love the feel and look of it - the money is all yellowed with age making it hard to tell at a glance what denominations you have, especially if I don't have my reading glases on!
I also have a newer (1980's) set.
My 17yr old son is ruthless in game - no mercy whatsoever - future land baron maybe? would hate to be one of his tenants
