For any older adults or elders. NEed your help.

I'm taking a course dealing with aging and i need to interview an older adult (65 or older)

And I thought since I don't have a lot of older adults around me and there are a lot of interesting people here, I would give it a shot here. I hope this is fine.

If you are an older adult (65 or older) please help me out by answering some questions. You can answer as detailed as you want.

Question:
Think back to your youth, what was the most important significant event that shaped your life? Historical or personal, What do you remember about this event, and how did it affect your life?

thanks in advance!

Well . . I am old enough . .

The most significant even in my life was getting married. To me it signaled a transition from a "kid on his own" to a life partnership.

It was a rather uneventful day . . we had gotten the license a week earlier and were just trying to decide when to "pull the trigger" We ended up at a Justice of the Peace and 15 mins. later walked out married.

We spent the rest of the weekend visiting each set of parents and telling them.

Re: For any older adults or elders. NEed your help.

Well, at 55, the most 'momentous' moment of my life that leaps to mind, is also the most trivial of events.

I had started my 1st 'real' job since leaving school at 15 and was working as a 'Lab Technician' at a local secondary school (11-18 year-olds, for non UK readers). I had always been fascinated by Chemistry since my earliest memories and, although not my ideal job, it was a good start to a promising career - although I weren't sure which area I wanted to focus on.

One day, as I was walking past a classroom teaching Physics, I noticed the pupils were learning how to use oscilloscopes, making pretty patterns and stuff.

Immediately, my interest changed to electronics! I wanted to know, not only how to make patterns like that (Fourier Analysis), but how the scopes themselves worked. Ever since that day, I've been involved in electronics, from radio and B&W TV repairs (with valves/tubes) to music electronics (instruments, amps, sound FX etc) to PC's.

I still love learning the sciences, from A - Z, but I sometimes wonder where my career would have gone, if that class had been held in another room, out of my way
