Razz Pros and cons of Vista!

So I've been hearing a lot of people talk stuff about vista. I sure have had my problems with but I had more with XP. After 2 years I finally have a stable comp with Vista home premium 64bit.

I found this marketing thing called the Mojave experiment. Microsoft brings people into a room with hidden cameras and say they have new OS called Mojave (Mo-haw-vee). It's just vista in a new box.
http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/

Its got slick layout.

Anyways I heard a lot of people like to rollback to XP, what a drag!
Pros for vistaplease tell if you think im wrong

I think the vista firewall blocks outgoing connections too?
It has directx 10 support
index searches
cool look
faster loading (i think so)
Windows update
other stuff can't think about

Cons for Vista
Its new but who cares?
UAC
Data execution prevention
CANCEL and allow (I like it)
XP been tried and true so why should I swith?
you guys can rant along too

I don't really feel like making a ist for Xp since its the opposite kinda of what I said there except I don't trust the XP firewall

What do you guys think about Linux? and how does it compare to Vista?

Re: Pros and cons of Vista!

vista 32 and xp 32 have no incompatiability issues that i have been able to find, at all.

However, several programs require XP compatiability mode to properly run.

My CAd software, which came on FAT32 Win98 x86, runs on NTFS Vista x86.

I turned off security alerts, and lappy runs just like if not fatser, than desktop.

Re: Pros and cons of Vista!

yea I found that my Mss Effect for PC(legal copy) needs to be run as admin.

What I want to know is why people rollback from vista to xp really and why they think XP is better?

Personally, I like Linux a lot, but there are at least a couple hundred different distros. At the moment I'm using Ubuntu, but on this machine - old, ugly and beat up LOL - I just use it to surf the Net, check email, listen to music and read or watch news items on Google and Yahoo.

I don't use Vista so can't really make give a direct comparison. In general, I think you'll probably find that more hardware works immediately with Windows, there are probably more apps available, and gaming is probably better.

If you're not a gamer, have an old machine and don't like fooling with a lot of security software, Linux may work well for you. Actually, with the exception of gaming in most cases, you can probably do most anything you want with Linux if you choose the right distro and are patient while learning (I'm assuming you're new to the OS. If not, my apologies). In my experience, Linux is rock stable. The only issues I've had mostly consist of lack of drivers for sound (Suse 11.0), but sound is working fine with Ubuntu. Some people have a lot of trouble with wireless drivers.

Pick a distro and try a LiveCD; I think you'll enjoy Linux.

Re: Pros and cons of Vista!

No im not new at all with vista. I got my vista 64 back in oct 2007 and I was using (non legal copy, I hated it) before that umm since early 2007.
So I'm just thinking about dual booting now.

does it destroy my restore points or something
do i need to format a hard drive?

No my system is pretty new just been upgrading it as I go.

I started off with this

antec sonata 2 case
450 watt PSU
ASUS 7600gt
m2n sli deluxe
2 x 1gig OCZ 5300
3800+ dual core @ 2.ghz x 2
1x 320 gig hard drive SATA
2x Lg DVD Combo drive IDE
1x 120 case fan

NOW I have this
m2n sli deluxe
1x 320 gig hard drive SATA
1 x 750 gig samsung HDD sata
2x Lg DVD Combo drive IDE
2 x 2 6400 patriot viper memory
750 corsair PSU
antec 900 gamer case
BFG 8800 gts
Creative Audigy SE soundcard
six case fans 5 x 120mm 1 x 200m

kinda got em bit by bit
I got a 750 corsair after fretting about power usage for my 8800 gts august
got my new ram 2 x2 samsung HDD and vista 64 OEm version in october 07
then I got my antec 900 gamer case in around march this year
and then a little bit later I got my audigy se card

Sorry to rant there. I had to struggle with vista 64 for a while cuz I got when it was pretty unstable and the drivers out there were unstable too. Its good now but damm i had a lot of BSOD's

Now im not using any pagefile memory im guessing because its un necessary a 64 bit system

pLEASE i wANT OPINIONS HATEFUL LOVING, COfUsEd, SOUR , BITTER tangy citrus, mangoes, oops those aren't opinions those are fruits!

be generous with your mind and share it!

Re: Pros and cons of Vista!

I helped beta test it in the later stages of development and hated it. It was slow, cumbersome, and not very compatible.

I also hate the M2N SLI motherboards. Went through 3 before I learned my lesson.

Re: Pros and cons of Vista!

you may be able to put lipstick on a computer with windows but in the end, its still just a computer with windows. :-)

I like vista, both of my computers that have vista on it were upgrades from xp and theres no looking back.

To say I never had a problem I would be lying, mostly it was my inexperience with it and some of my other devices were not compatible with it.

IMO, theres really no cons to it. Most of the problems you hear about is because its something new and users are too lazy to learn it, to find the proper drivers, to make sure their computer can handle it, etc...

If the users were put the effort into it like they do when trying to downgrade to xp, they would realize its just as good, if not a better os than xp.

Something to consider, if its just a bad os, why are the help forums full of users looking for help for their xp system. Since xp is supposed to be so much better, there should not be any problems with it...
