Thoughts on being an admin or a mod?
I'm finding that it's very time consuming. And being an admin is definitely not easy.

Re: Thoughts on being an admin or a mod?
It depends on the forum itself, really - how the forum is designed, the members, the topics under discussion etc.
I moderate on 2 forums (both 'global mod' - 'GraphixanStuff' and 'Lockergnome') and, most of the time, I'm redundant, as far as the work is concerned. (It was 3 forums, but 1 died). The real trick to setting up a good forum though, is to pick good mods from around the world - that way, all the time-zones are covered for when the members post

Re: Thoughts on being an admin or a mod?
It would be easier if people would simply read the rules and forum guidelines. Since they agree to them when they register, it's probably not too much to ask.

Re: Thoughts on being an admin or a mod?
I think John summed it up best but there are some other considerations to consider.
On a forum such as TSF it's necessary to have a large moderator pool in order to keep things clean and cut. The forum is just so massive that having just a handful of mods would be impractical. On a smaller forum you can often get by with a regular admin and a super-mod. it also depends on the forum's security. If you run a basic phpBB forum you may have more trouble with spambots and the like than you would with a forum powered by something such as vBulletin.
