It sucks that we now live in a world where we have to hide things so that they don't get stolen. It was in a locked car ... Sure it was wrong of her to blame the store for not warning her, but still ...

It also sucks that her 10 year-old kid has more sense than the mother raising him

Maybe something like "Here madam, I have taken the trouble of compiling a book of life do's and don'ts I researched it in the local children's library and from a conversation I have had with your 10 year old Son." ..."It's the LEAST we could do"

And yes it's a shame it has got to the point where nothing is safe but then it has been like that for a long time and she really should have know better.

Re: Woman buys laptop, leaves it in plain view in her Lexus and has it stolen.

Theft outside of an electronics store is horribly common. The store didn't have any obligation to something that any consumer ought to know.

Also, if you buy some high-end or expensive new toy DON'T just toss the boxes out with your other rubbish and recyclables. It's like putting out a sign as to what new things you have inside your house. A security system isn't an iron gate.

You're all missing the real point: who buys a $2000 laptop for a 10 year old?

Re: Woman buys laptop, leaves it in plain view in her Lexus and has it stolen.

Hes age isn't a big issue for me as we don't know the circumstances. Maybe he is technicaly gifted.
Two 16 year olds just sold an internet software company they built up here in Ireland, for $3.5million. One of them was asked to be a director in the buying company in the Usa.

My father bought me a Comadore 64 when I was about that age, younger even. If I was to convert that into todays money I don't think I would be far off $2000. And we didn't have much growing up but my father felt that the world was changing and he didn't want me losing out.(Ok take out the violines)

My point is we can't judge her for spending money on her Son. Anyway, by the sounds of it he is the one with the brains.

Re: Woman buys laptop, leaves it in plain view in her Lexus and has it stolen.

i used to have to deal with this type of complaint
people that lost what they had bought on the way home and expected the store to issue a replacement
dropped their change on the floor and expect you to give them the change again with a line of customers waiting to be served
first politely inform them that once they had been served, anything that happend afterwards was their resposiblity
if they did not accept this they would then be told in very colourful language where to get off and to shop elsewhere in future
after years having to put up with these idiots because you need the job,it's a great change when that factor is removed
