Speeders to pay extra for police fuel.
This move, while viewed by some as a good idea, has also received its fair share of criticism.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...ngticket_N.htm Here in the uk i can take my pick of tv shows usually containing twenty minutes of footage showing police chases and making it stretch to an hour by irritatingly repeating the same clips over and over. My point is this. The little old lady is pulled over for doing 42 in a 40 zone by an over zealous cop while elsewhere a car full of criminals with no respect for the law gets chased across 3 counties by a helicopter and a dozen patrol cars. The little old lady will have to pay the same $12 surcharge? On the face of it, maybe this is a good idea, but needs putting into perspective.

Re: Speeders to pay extra for police fuel.
I agree. It's a good idea but needs refining
Perhaps have a limit after which the fee applies, such as if the chase lasts for more than a mile. Or perhaps the fee can reflect the amount of miles covered by the cops. I.e To use the same examples. Little Old Lady would probably pull over straight away, therefore no 'extra' fuel would be used - no surcharge Car full of Crims - Surcharge for every cop car/chopper/bike/tank/boat involved multiplied by the length of the chase in miles. ![]()

Re: Speeders to pay extra for police fuel.
This smacks of profitering. The police should ask for more funding, not hiking up the costs to the people they catch, especially if it is a blanket plan regardless of seriousness of the crime

Indeed, i remembered reading something about hybrid cars earlier and even though i had left the search page open from earlier, it still took me 30 mins to find it.

Re: Speeders to pay extra for police fuel.
I'm glad I read this page. I live in the U.S.A. but it doesn't matter the gas situation is all over. That is one thing I did not think about and I thought I had thought of them all. lol Police stopping people to give out MORE tickets for something like the little old lady going 2 miles faster, which they usually overlook unless they don't have their quota for the month~! But That sure gives me the persuasion to go slower, wear my seatbelt, check all my lights all of it, to keep from getting stopped. but u know, they can stop you for nothing, that has been done to me before.

Re: Speeders to pay extra for police fuel.
Hi Smokeygirl49, and a very warm welcome to TSF.
Don't mean to be an old fuddy duddy but my wife and i were in a serious road accident after we had only been married for six months, nearly 20 years ago and because, although she thought she was wearing her seatbelt, apparently it wasn't fastened properly and because a drunk driver pulled out in front of me, giving me no chance to avoid him, i still have to help my wife to have a bath and she struggles to walk more than a few yards unaided. My message to anyone is, don't wear your seatbelt because its against the law not to, or because you can't afford the fine, wear it because it will, someday, very likely, save your life. Again i am sorry to be so morbid, please don't use this post as a reason not to be a member of these forums, you just caught me at a time when i have had a few drinks and am feeling a bit sorry for myself as i'm sure we all do sometimes. Whether you want to solve a problem with your computer or have some kind of online social life, you have come to the right place and i hope you will get as much enjoyment from these forums as i do. Regards Dave. ![]()
