I am wondering how long it usually takes to heal a broken middle toe. I broke mine about 2 months ago, the bone below the knuckle snapped and was sticking up a little until I popped it back, Do I need a pin inserted? Or will it heal on it's own?

Re: Broken Toe
The thing is, it doesn't hurt or bother me anymore unless i step weird or bend my toes wrong... could it be healing?

Re: Broken Toe
All they will do is strap the broken toe to the one next to it. That way, when it heals, it should at least be straight. Better to get it checked though.

Re: Broken Toe
I'm pretty sure that as a kid I broke a couple of toes kicking off the side of a swimming pool. I remember it hurting like heck and they were really black and blue for a long time. They eventually healed on their own, but to this day, more than 50 years later, they will bother me especially in cold weather.
But I don't remember anything looking like the bone sticking up in my case. So it sounds like you might have had a compound fracture, rather than just a crack in the bone. You should probably get it checked out although it sounds like you got the bone back in place on your own.

Re: Broken Toe
it isn't a compound fracture, it didn't break the skin... i went to the doc. all he did was was inject some numbing agent, pop it in AGAIN, and tell me to stay off of it, and i got a prescription.

Re: Broken Toe
It's not too late to strap it to a neighbor toe unless it's popped itself out again.
And I'm sure the dr wiped the injection site with alchohol and used a sterile needle.
