Workers refuse jobs with no Facebook
Almost half of those who use MySpace and Facebook during work hours say they would refuse a job where they were not allowed access to social networking sites

As an ex employer, I would be furious if I found my staff wasting the time that I PAY them to WORK for me!

What sad little lives some people lead. There's more important things in life than pretending you have friends. Isn't there?

DonaldG: "As an ex employer, I would be furious if I found my staff wasting the time that I PAY them to WORK for me!"
I wholeheartedly agree; and I'm NOT an employer. Does my head in to see people sitting around wasting time whilst their colleagues are running around like blue-@r5ed flies. I work on the basis that I start at nine, finish at five, and the rest of the time is my own - I never work later than five (I feel if I regularly had to, it's either because I'm rubbish at my job, or chronically overworked), but I think that means my boss is perfectly within their rights to assume I'll do what I'm paid to do in the interim. MunkyPhil: "What sad little lives some people lead. There's more important things in life than pretending you have friends. Isn't there?" Nail > > > Head! I love it when someone goes on about how many squillions of friends they have on FaceBook; saves me the trouble of having to work out whether they're a muppet or not ![]() l_b_rex: "In London Canada they just banned mp3 players and ipods and cell phones from high schiolls and elementry schools and kids these days are friggin winers! Couldn't take ANYTHING like that into school when I was a kid; would have been confiscated and mailed back to your parents at their cost with a reminder on what was permitted to be brought to school and under what conditions. Yup! ![]() sobeit: "at least here in the states if they refused a job, they are supposed to lose their unemployment benefits - if they are currently unemployed." Same here in the UK (and Australia, I believe). The tough part is proving the reasons for turning a job down; some scroungers are VERY creative ![]() |

Re: Workers refuse jobs with no Facebook
Here in the UK, you can refuse a job, for legitimate reasons, without losing the benefits - overly long travelling time - to and from work, salary waaaay to low to exist on etc.

Re: Workers refuse jobs with no Facebook
Stupid things like Facebook and MySpace should in no way determine how good a job is.

Re: Workers refuse jobs with no Facebook
maybe if job searchers are looking for places that will allow you time on facebook and myspace, maybe those should be considered benefits and should be taxed as such based how much time they are spending in those sites and what they are costing the company they are working for.

Re: Workers refuse jobs with no Facebook
I believe that Facebook and MySpace should count towards lunch 'hour'. If they spend four hours on Facebook, they can skip lunch for four days. After all, they can use them during their lunch break anyway...

Re: Workers refuse jobs with no Facebook
Where I work they are blocked outright. Since each staff member has a unique logon to a specific domain they can't access those sites. that's just fine by me because MySpace is ALWAYS causing trouble for our public use computers.
