Midnight's World (Sick Dad)
Well guys I've had a rough few days... my dad had a heart attack Thursday and underwent triple bypass surgery yesterday. His doc says he did very well for someone of his age (84). I just hope he won't be as hardheaded about going to the doctor now...
I'll keep you guys updated about how things go.

Best wishes to your Dad, here too, MT! My father has had bypass/angioplasty four different times over 15 years, so I know how scary that can be.
I also know hardheaded. Hell, the man was having minor BRAIN SURGERY once and called me the day before to say 'he was going in for a procedure the next day'. Had to call his girlfreind to get the real scoop! Best of Luck!!!

If I can offer a little advice:
As long as he is stubborn, ornery, whatever ... he's alive. My grandfather, when he was in his late 60's, had real bad knee problems. This prevented him from gardening (at the advice of his doctor). He skipped one year of tending his garden, and during that year his health deteriorated. The following spring, he went back to gardening, knee problems or not. His health improved, and I believe that it added years to his life. Plus, being able to complain about his knees made him feel better, too .. ;) I think, in your dad's case, being stubborn about seeing the doc is just a mental game - it let's him put up a fight, though he knows he'll lose. But it allows him to keep his pride and sleep at night knowing he didn't just give in. Best wishes to you and yours. |

Thanks to all...
Today's update: The doc's had him up in a chair taking short walks and he had some real food today. He was moved out to a regular ICU room out of the little place they had him in so my stepmom can at least stay with him at night. Another update tomorrow...

Update on Dad!
Well guys, he got to come home today...doc told him he can drive in 2 weeks but stepmom says she's going by the book they gave her telling about the care of a bypass patient(which says 6-8 weeks). He's healing nicely but only realized a couple days ago that they got the veins out of his legs.

yeah, it sucks that they pull veins out of the legs, but if it came down to it, i'd rather they rearranged my parts than let me die.
good to hear he is doing better. :)
