Can you imagine a couple of those fashioned into car headlights... I want 2 please...

(I note that they did not give an indication of cost - or if it can be scaled down for domestic use. However ...Wow!)

These bulbs are already in use. Panasonic uses them in their rear-projection TV sets under the name "li-fi."

I don't know about longevity but from memory of the vidio. I saw it a couple of days ago it had the plasma down as using 250 watts and the other one using 400 watts and the 400 watt one wasn't as bright.

From what I've read they claim a life of about 50K hours on average. Minding manufacturing defects and the harshness of real-world use you can probably look at about 35K I'd say. Even so that AWESOME considering the brightness and power consumption. The 180w UHP bulb in my TV set is only supposed to last 5K hours MAX.

Another application could be automotive. There's also potential for exploring our own world by having these rather tiny but ultra-bright lamps.

Interesting to see if they get down to battery power for torch applications. There could well be a minimum power/voltage limitation in as much as the plasma generation will not commence until a certain level of power is inputted.

However, a very interesting bit of kit!
