I have one rule I always follow when it comes to ISP's. Mainly this applies to dial-ups, but can apply to high-speed as well:
If the ISP requires me to run/install their software, be it a dialer or IE modification or whatever, I will not do business with them. Too often, the software provided causes problems down the road. So: AOL, Earthlink, Juno (to name a few) are not recommended by my company. |

My dad has Earthlink and has had good luck with their TS, but I'm noticing that if I try to hook my laptop up to his network (I'm not on Earthlink) and try to send email through his (non-authentication) SMTP server, for whatever reason it refuses to recognize a non-Earthlink machine. So I've noticed there are some issues with not-normally-Earthlink machines trying to connect through an Earthlink DSL home network (I have a feeling they changed their mail server slightly), but overall their support is pretty good.

Hi,
I had earthlink dial up for a long time. I did change to SBC when I got a great price in a package. Earthlink is a great provider and their service and assistance is also excellent and you can talk to a real person at any time and their wait time is very excellent. I would recommend them highly and if this package that gives me the service for half the earthlink price every dies, I will immediatly go back to Earthlink. |

i was on earthlink for quite some time, and i am wondering what you guys are smoking. (not to be taken meanly)
all i had to do was enter the access phone number, the username and password, and it would work. they sent me a cd, but i never installed it. AOL will not allow this. Netscape will not allow this. pacifier will. prodigy will. earthlink will. mindspring will.---(from what i am told) i also would recommend earthlink.
