we used to have (and I had a copy too, but somewhere over the years it got lost) this sign hanging up in our repair facility in the early 70's.

The old computer mainframes were full of blinking lights ... and this was why the sign was funny .. all those flashing address & data indicators to see what was happening from the outside

Something similar was seen in the form of the robot in the original series of Lost in Space (~1965) .. although the robot seemed to have the lights " just to give an impression of life"
