SNOW! In Vancouver!

This is the winter of snowstorms for Vancouver, BC. I didn't really count, but I think we've had no less than 6 snowstorms this year (the norm is 1-2)! With the really bad ones, public transit halted, schools and businesses closed, and car accidents clogged the streets.. It's catastropic! (Blame global warming!) It's only Feb, so keep posted for more snow updates! Next winter, i'm going to add a counter, so that someone can report whenever it snows in Vancouver. My guess is probably no less than 5 again.

Re: SNOW! In Vancouver!

Ok, just as I thought that I can safely assume the snowy season is over, it has snowed YET AGAIN! not that much (mostly hail), but still VERY unusual. I've NEVER EVER EVER seen snow in spring before. In fact, I rarely see snow deep enough to play in, even in the winter, here.

Re: SNOW! In Vancouver!

Hi. . .

Out of curiosity what is the average snowfall in a typical 24 hour period?

Here on the Eastern US Seaboard, we have had a few minor storms this winter - maybe 6" or 8". Actually, we got off lucky.

We do get those storms known as a nor'easter - that have dumped just under 3 feet of snow on us in a 24 hour period. We seem to get these here in New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania every 7-10 years. If I recall correctly, during the blizzard of 1996, they actually closed the State of New Jersey for two days.

Regards. . .

Re: SNOW! In Vancouver!

We usually have only 5-10cm (2-4") on a snowy day, but for a region that's not used to snow, it's enough to disrupt traffic, transit, and flights, close businesses and schools, shut off power, and generally cause chaos. Snowstorms, normally, are very rare here on the Pacific Northwest.
