Cliff hero resigns in safety row

Paul Waugh climbed down to Faye Harrison, 13, who was hanging on by her fingertips and about to fall 200ft (60m) at Salburn-on-Sea, Teesside.

He did not wear safety equipment as it would have taken time to go back to his vehicle which was some distance away.

Mr Waugh was later told that he had broken rules.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said it was not looking for dead heroes.

Re: Cliff hero resigns in safety row

You hear about things like this all the time. It doesn't ever matter that a life was SAVED, just that the person saving that life didn't follow perfect procedure.

I'd of done the same thing. He saved a girls life good for him he should be praised for that, not dispraised. I'd of told the board to go shove it.

Thats not that far from me actually.... And trust the BBC to spell the place name wrong...its saltburn-on-sea.

But yeah, they lost a great guy who has been with them ages just for saving someones life. They might just need that extra pair of VOLUNTEER hands one day and they got rid of him for saving someone.

Re: Cliff hero resigns in safety row

My teacher said it best, in life its not about following the rules its about getting it done, and if you don't get caught along the way they the more power to you (refering to situations not illegal such as saving a life etc)

IDK but if lets say their was a law that stated I cannot touch a person without their conset, do you truly beileve I will adhere to the law as i watch someone who got knocked out in a car crush burn to death? Eh, gotta be kidding me before I watch a person burn to death i'll burn with him.
