Re: credit report
I used www.freecreditreport.com in December of 2006. I found stuff on my record that shouldn't have even been there. They'll only ask for money if you want to get their report monitoring service.

Re: credit report
It seems to be an Experian Company - Caution though, I used Experian in the UK just to see what my rating was. A lot of interesting detail so I decided to print out it out and needed to take on a trial subscription for one month. I was happy to subscribe for the month to get all the printouts.
However, a few months lated, my wife alerted me to the fact that they were still taking a monthly subscription, month-on-month. I rang them to complain and was advised that I should have cancelled the subscription BEFORE the Month's end. In other words, you have to OPT OUT! That said, Experian did give a refund once they confirmed that I had only used the service on that one time. (I had to argue the point to get it all back, they only wanted to give a 1 month 'good will' refund...Afte demanding to talk to a manager... the full refund less 1 month was forthcoming)
