A non-polluting, inexpensive car That will upset Big Oil companies.BBC News is reporting that a French company has developed a pollution-free car which runs on compressed air. India's Tata Motors has the car under production and it may be on sale in Europe and India by the end of the year.

I saw this on TV. It theoretically can recharge itself as the mechanical motion used to move the vehicle can also drive a compressor. While not nearly as efficient as just using a stand-alone unit it can be used to allow the car to be driven further. A lot of care has also been taken in the design of the chassis, especially in the area where the compressed air is stored. I can't even imagine what it'd take to get to them it's so well protected.

There will be those who say, "But what about the use of electricity to power the air compressors? It's still not completely pollution free!" Think about how many cars that run on gas can be replaced by these vehicles. It's been said time and time again that removing X number of cars will prevent Y tons of pollution from the atmosphere. We're also making great strides in renewable and non-polluting electricity generation. Here in San Antonio we get some of our power from wind farms out in west Texas. People can also do their part to help by replacing old and inefficient appliances and by uses CCFLs.

It will produce a very interesting dilemma for them! I guess they could reclaim it in road tax, but that would hardly fit the green image they are promoting.

I am just as excited about non-automotive applications. Just think if building site generators ran off of air not petrol. And on a major scale if generators could run off of air, then we could create instant power reserves that could replenish in 'down periods'.

...but it is one giant airbag!!!

It will be made from similar composites to high end race cars, and they withstand awesome crashes. Plus, after the crash you can just glue it back together (and yes that is one of the selling points on the website!).
