Re: The Dr. Groucho, Dr. Chico & Dr. Harpo Thread v. Happy

Gistek, I hope you have better luck then me at the Doctors. Sugars are way to high, cholestoral is all in the wrong place big time, I am over weight, blood presure is to high and mom/dad are pushing my buttons all day long. He is putting me on more meds. O woopee doda day!!! Stressssss. He put me on a 1800 food plan.

What I don't get is on that darn sheet under 1800 it say 7 for starches, 4 for veg, etc but it is in grams, then when you look at the list of foods is is measure in oz / 1/4 cup / cup. How in the heck do you match up what the 1800 stuff to what listed below under the 1800 to what the oz, cups, and 1/4 cup stuff--- I am totally confused.

Re: The Dr. Groucho, Dr. Chico & Dr. Harpo Thread v. Happy

I use the "Rule of the Hand." No portion of cooked food is larger than one hand. I also try to have 6 mini-meals rather than 3 big meals. I also follow the new food pyramid, (USDA Food Pyramid) when I plan meals. So if I have a bowl of spaghetti that holds about the same size as two fists, I count it as two starch servings and one vegie serving.

There are several computer applications that have food values in them. You enter the amount you eat in portion sizes you are familiar with and it converts the meal into calories. My favorite is Diabetes Pilot. Originally written for the Palm Pilot, it also has a PC version. I like the ability it has to add foods that aren't in it's database and to store favorite meals.

Since I'm loosing weight, I'm not using the food tracking part right now, but when I was starting my diet, I used it all the time and it really helped me stay on path.

I also do crunches - sorta like "girl style" sit ups. I think doing the crunches had kept me from getting a big apron. Since I have neck and back problems, I use an ab-lounger or one of those tube things with the neck rest, but others I know just lie on the floor with their legs up on a chair. In CAP, crunches are done partner style - where your partner holds your feet down while you do the crunches.

Re: The Dr. Groucho, Dr. Chico & Dr. Harpo Thread v. Happy

Hay Gistek and Sandy! I think those are both great Ideas. I have kind of steard away from doing much of what you said Gistek. Got into a big depressive state around here for a while, been trying to shake it. I have got to get back in shape for sure. I set down today and kindof out line a plan for myself but it is difficult to stay on track when you have to deal with my folks. I need to found me a few lady friends to hang out with but I have gotten a bit stage fright seen the last two really duck me over. There just ant any ladies around here to hang with. But I am a serviver and I'll snape out of it. --- I started my food planner today. I call the nurse at the doctors office and she explain how that food planner works, about like you where talking about Gistek. I think what I have been doing is grabbing a bunch of snacks when I set down to play with the computer to and drinking a coke. So I am going to cut out a lot of snacking. God Bless , got to check my sugar, it feels low. Late guys.

Re: The Dr. Groucho, Dr. Chico & Dr. Harpo Thread v. Happy

You can do just about anything for 15 minutes, DC. Get yourself a wind-up timer - like is used in a kitchen - and set it for 15 minutes. While it's ticking away, do a few sets of crunches. When it dings, you're done.

As far as snacking goes, before you reach for the sweets ask yourself, "Am I hungry enough to eat some vegetables?" If the answer is yes, go hunt up some vegetables. (Most frozen veggies are great to snack on right from the bag.) If there are no vegetables available, you are permitted to choose a 100 calorie snack, in your case, preferably one with a low total carb number.

After finishing your snack, wait 20 minutes to see if you're still hungry. If you are, then it's time for at least a mini-meal.

When you think you want a soda, drink a bottle of water. Refill the water bottle and stick it in the fridge. Next time you want a soda, grab the water. If you still crave the soda after you finish the water, have the soda.

'k. I been up all night writing. Got almost two whole chapters done :) But killed off two of my characters :( They were good guys. So now it's time for breakfast and a nap. G'night All.

Re: The Dr. Groucho, Dr. Chico & Dr. Harpo Thread v. Happy

Hay Sandy, I thought I saw Charlotte running past my front yard yesterday and Glas was running infront of her yelling "help!! mad Dog mad Dog. Can't says I blame her. "Get him Charlotte !!!!"

Gistek / Sandy --- Good News, Aready seeing results of food plan. I cut down my plate at Rayans by half and started eating a salad before I eat my meal there. I love my ice Tea and cokes but I past it off for the water bottle. For the last two days my sugar has been setting between 124 qnd 74 which is very good for me. That is a good point about the timer, I need to get me one. --- I recken durning this depress state I got down and away from my food habits.

Where is Jack at, any one sean him around, that last movie had some blips in it I didn't quite get, I think it needed some salt and pepper. Good show on the written chapters Gistek.
