I could not find an offtopic computer forum so I will try here. I am going to purchase a new CD/DVD Burner as mine were works on Windows95/98 and now with XP and Vista being the newest microsoft OS's I want something that will work on these newer OS's. They are selling in the range of 49-90 USD. Anything that cost more than $100 is out of the question. And what is double layer DVD and where do you buy them.

Re: best inexpensive CD/DVD burner
A double layer dvd (known as dual layer) burner can write to DVD dual layer discs. A normal DVD hold 4.2 GB of data. A dual layer dvd holds twice that (8.4GB of data). I would recommend looking for a LG Dual Layer, Lightscribe drive. Lightscribe drives can burn a image in to the top of Lightscribe DVDs. It's kinda neat. For me it was an added bonus for the price of my burner. Here is what I bought LG Electronics LG GSA-H62L DVDRW 18X DVD-RW Black SATA LightScribe OEM. I paid $49.99 for it. I am in Canada. That is the going price, not sale price. Look in smaller computer shops. That is where you get good prices. Bestbuy, etc are over priced.

Thanks, I am not familar with SATA drives all mine are IDE, will the Sata drive work ok in my computer? Does the right cables come with it? How about software does it come bundled with any DVD burning software. bruiser I have been looking there "newegg" and just did not know which would be the best one to get. If the software does not come with it any suggestions.I will want to burn some CD's in my CD burner so I will need software that will do both. Someone suggested I get 1click but it does not seem to burn CD or Copy CD's Do the DVD burners come exterior drives with a USB connection?

Re: best inexpensive CD/DVD burner
Your motherboard must have sata connectors on it. I'm guessing yours won't. If it is more than 3 yrs. old it won't for sure. But yes, it comes with an oem version of Nero.

Re: best inexpensive CD/DVD burner
I recently bought a Lite-On DVD-RAM drive (model LH-2016S) for about $60 at a local shop. Onlin it's cheaper and the drive is GREAT.

Re: best inexpensive CD/DVD burner
Bought a lite-on 20x DVD burner about a year ago, has worked great for me.
I don't even think there are 20x DVD-Rs out there yet

Re: best inexpensive CD/DVD burner
If you can I'd wait a few weeks until Black Friday - the day after Thanksgiving. Last year I bought a dual layer DVD burner from Staples for $15 - it's worked perfectly.
