What homeowners in Southern California should do against wildfires

Two rows of completely destroyed homes in San Diego, and two virtually untouched homes right in the midst of them.

In germany your typical house is build outta solid concrete, i'd like to see the damage that a fire could do to that.

In Guam all base houses were designed to withstain a hurriance, only times a house would be damaged is if a BIG tree fell on it, but typically we cleared the trees around the houses so that wasn't even a big deal.

In many of the houses I have stayed in Germany (Taunnustien, Weisbaden, Frankfurt, Mainz, Munich, Heidelburgh etc) have fire vunrabilities that would have made them go up in smoke... The roofs for instance. Wooden window frames, wooden doors, garages with cars (petrol tanks) in them etc etc...

You have probably never experienced the intense heat generated by bush fires upwards of 1000c. That gives a blast of superheated air that starts to heat up the roofing timbers to the degree that they give off flamable gasses. All it then takes is a vey small spark by s passing hot cinder and hey presto - no house....

Don't be too confident or complacent in concrete buildings being impervious.

(Remember, someone claimed that the Titanic was unsinkable!)

Clearly those images are living proof of what a good house can withstand.

It was verified every time there was a wildfire--that if your house had a tile roof, and stucco walls, it pretty much was immune to fires.
