Surprising Turn of Events

Microsoft to release .Net source code.
I did not see this comming... Read about it in RedmondDeveloper. Here's an article about it.

Visual Studio 2008 beta is available to download. Got me a copy a few days ago. Did not know about this, though.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

To tell the truth I didn't pay a bit of attention to any of that when it was going on. So, they are being forced to release source code? I didn't know that was included in the anti-trust lawsuit.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

Yes. And they have to pay about €500,000,000 for breaking anti-trust laws.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

Does it apply to OS source code?

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

I bet there are people foaming at the mouth just to be able to see something that was kept secret so long. I wouldn't mind putting an eyeball to it. Hmm. I should pay more attention to the news...well, I got Studio 2008. Although I'm not a developer I intend to see what all that I can.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

I heard about it this morning (Swedish TV news). Not mentioned in the (7-8) newspapers I read every day - mostly European, though.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

Are you talking about Studio 2008? I stumbled, and I do mean stumbled, across it a few days ago on their website. If it wasn't for that I probably still wouldn't know about it.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

No, this is about MS having to provide code to help program developers making applications able to work with(in) Windows.

Re: Surprising Turn of Events

I just saw it in RedmondDeveloper. I haven't finished the article, but so far there is no mention of the anti-trust lawsuit. But then again, I really doubt there would be. I wonder how this is going to impact things, and where it is all going to lead. Its really pretty exciting just to see any code put out by Microsoft.
