Maybe, the cats are immune to scorpion poison? It's quite strange that it didn't harm the cat

Most mammals are immune to many poisons. All but humans are immune to the venom of the Black Widow Spider and its relatives. We're relatively new to the evolutionary order of things and we need to do a little bit of catching up before we're immune to such things.
Cats may be idiots but they're not stupid enough to unnecessarily take on anything that could threaten its life. It's jut another survival instinct.
