I was in an Air France 747 that got hit some years ago. One of the most frightening experiences of my life.

No. It hit the wing and I had visions of it falling off, but there was no damage.

Re: Plane Hit by lightning bolt while taking Off from Osaka
Notice how the current goes in the front and out the rear of the plain, this explains why the plain did not fall from the sky. Had it found a (good)grounding source the out come might had been different.......

Re: Plane Hit by lightning bolt while taking Off from Osaka
It did find a good grounding source - the ground, literally. The bolt could not have grounded in the plane. The metal shell of the plane just provided a path of least resistance for a short distance on the bolt's path down to earth. That's why it went through the plane in the first place and that's why it went from tip to tail along the plane - the bolt needed to head downwards along the plane in order to minimize the work done in getting to the ground so if the plane was oriented with the tail up it would have been the opposite.
