Any chance of routing one of those cables to my house??

Id love that. I would need more hard-disks as they would be full with movies

Re: 75-year-old pensioner has fastest broadband

a DVD in two seconds?

SATA can only write at a max of 3.0gb/s

and I believe that's just the access speed. Due to RPM speeds, hard drivewrite rates are a lot lower than that.

this connection is 90% useless

Ok let me explain in, the best I can.

Your PC is only as fast as your slowest part, harddrives being one of them. Now the fastest typical HD a person will own is a SATA 3.0 granted there are higher perfromance hard drivers that are used in servers etc, but thats typical of what you will find. This hard drive has a bandwitdh of 3.0 GIGs or somthing like that. This is theoretical and as any person will tell you theoretical bandwidth is rarely your throughput (how much you actually get). Therefore having 75 Gigs per second of internet speed really doesn't do you that much good for the most part when it comes to dling stuff, simply because most of it won't be used because your HD can only access so much stuff.

This is the reason why we have cache, and ram. Cache is really fast, and ram is fast. This holds the stuff for the CPU to process so it goes faster. So basically thats the.

You notice this as lan parties when DLing large files. Your on 100 GIG network with 100 GIG nic card, but only getting 300-400 MB a second. Because thats all your PC is going handle.

Re: 75-year-old pensioner has fastest broadband

streaming what?

A hard drive can write faster than your brain can absorb information.

Even a high quality Xvid movie (blu-ray rip) compressed down to a DVD5 is 4.36 gigabytes. (That's a video at 1280x528 and a bitrate of 4429 kbit/s for video, just to give you an idea of the quality.)

This is a two hour movie. so 4.36 gigabytes / 2 hours = 634 kilobits /sec

that's well within standard US broadband speeds.
