Not 'safe,' but hope for 'safer' cigarettes
CAPITOL HILL (AP) - No one says this could lead to a safe cigarette. But supporters of a bill expected to pass a key Senate committee this week say it should lead to safer smokes.
They want to give the Food and Drug Administration the authority to regulate the levels of tar, nicotine and other hazardous materials in tobacco products. Cigarette smoke contains more than four-thousand chemicals, more than 40 of them known cancer-causers. The legislation also would let the government control how cigarettes are made and force the disclosure of their ingredients. Supporters claim all this should expose and ultimately limit the ways cigarettes are engineered to hook people and keep them addicted. Opponents of the bill worry the public will assume cigarettes are safe if they're regulated by the F-D-A. Smoking kills more than 400-thousand Americans a year and is responsible for nearly one out of five deaths. http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/lo...6-5cb74a6142ce

Re: Not 'safe,' but hope for 'safer' cigarettes
I bet if potassium based fertilizers were made illegal when used for tobacco the associated cancer rate would decline by 1,000%....
why do I think that? because when American tobacco farmers started using said fertilizers circa 1930 the cancer rate went up by 1,000%....apparently these fertilizers create Polonium-210 on the leaves of the tobacco....hmmmm... I guess the big question is if the soils are now contaminated to an extent they are considered a hazard because of residual radioactivity.... |
