Windows XP Service Pack 3 And Windows Vista Service Pack 1

Hi,

Windows Vista;
There are alot of rummers going around that the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is coming out some time later this year, but then I heard that it has been postboned to 2008.

Do You Know Anything?

Windows XP;
There are also rummers that the Windows XP SP3 will be comming out shortly.

Do You Know Anything?

I have found un-official downloads for the Windows Vista SP1.

Thanks,

Jay.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 And Windows Vista Service Pack 1

There's been some buzz around as far as SP3 for XP is concerned, because (due to a misunderstanding and/or MS goof) it was thought that SP3 would be launched by the end of 2007. The preliminary date for the SP3 launch has been set to 1H FY2008 for quite some time now: Windows Service Pack Road Map. It might be postponed, but I don't think (despite all the jokes MS fellas say that XPsp3 is already out under the "Vista" name) that SP3 would ever be abandoned (of course, one can never really know - we'll just have to wait and see). It is possible that this SP3 will be what SP4 is to Win2K - the swan song and final frontier... as the mainstream support for WinXP ends one whole year later: April 14th, 2009 ( source). NB: Extended support for WinXP ends April 8th, 2014.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 And Windows Vista Service Pack 1

It was supposed to be released but it was (supposedly again) delayed. Most people I've contacted say there won't be one at all now, as MS is trying to **** and get users to move onto Vista this way.

But I doubt it, since XP is just so popular and everywhere, we've already reached a large enough tally of updates to have another Service Pack.

I understand, Kalim, and this is pretty much what I've said, as well. However, it is important to note that Microsoft never actually changed their service pack timeline - which has been showing a date some time in 2008 from the beginning. Regarding their goof that launched the whole discussion, one can read more at http://www.techspot.com/news/25433-m...ntil-2008.html.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 And Windows Vista Service Pack 1

I understand Zazula. I had read something similar a few months back now, before that headline spread around.

Though it was rumored as just a diversion for the actual release date.

Personally, I'd be happy if MS just slapped together the hundred-some-odd updates that await you after installing XP sp2.

Please!

A Fantasy I sssume that pervades among all of us. But the infinite holes, infinite being the operative blech... R discovered one or two at a time, patches written for each....OVER TIME.....YES? THAT IS THE INHERENTLY lESS THAN NATURE OF THE beast that is MS!

Waiting for a cummulative patch comprising a gazillion,would mean reaminaing open to each vulneraiblity discovered until u may well become a victim of one or more vulnerabilities, right?

No ... They need to roll all the current updates into a pseudo-Service Pack ... It would really help us OEM's.

Programming-wise, not a big job.

However, MS wants to drop XP support. Part of doing that is making it inconvenient to maintain it.

I can now C where any professional techie deailing with OPCs (Other Peoples' Computers) would cherish this, and so, just re this, they SHOULD. Re second part....again, MS cares notinhg about wut is convenient. They care ony about more and more profits by whatevah means necessary. Is the issue.

Again, planned obsolesence is Very Bad Thing....but not AS as FORCED OBSOLESENCE. Experience the markeplace worldwide....not just within your subjective arena. In all things. Work to b OPEN, NOT DEFENSIVE, please....AND to gather and see all the data as opposed to hurlng invective blindly.... which accomplishes nuthng good for nobody.

Re Kalim's fascinating post....again, wut they spend onl itigation worldwide......could feed a middle sized country in perpituity Brings to mind that my late father, warm, gifted and integrity-driven from the inside out....did business on a handshake. Not once did anhyone ever see him expllot another human; it wasn't in him. At his funeral, someone speaking said, in is whole life, Jack (don't I hear it all the time, OK?) never sued anyone nor was he sued by anyone...it worked back to the kind of man he was in many ways.

A very rich, precious legacy for his daughter.....as I C.... am the same.
