The AYES have it

This is my new fav animal. Just learned about it. Talk about evolution and adaptation! I luv all lemurs but this one is unique. Along with wut U will read about should U choose.....though it talks about this.....it has astonishing digit.....long and skinny. It adheres itself to tree tunrks and uses this evolved digit......just like a device that finds wall studs. It TAPS THE TRUNK IN THE MOST inscredibly nuanced, SUBTLE WAYS WITH this perfeclty evolved finger, THEN it LISTENS FOR THE HOLLOW SOUNDS and can assess the specifics!

WHEN IT LOCATES ONE, IT KNOWS THAT IS WHERE DINNER IS. Like a big, delicious GRUB. Yum! (Be the creature, do not wince.)

Then, it uses its remarkable , powerful jaw/canines to open the trunk menthodically. Then it uses that digit again to go into the opening and carefully extract dinner

Wow. Right?

The last is BABY Aye-Aye being hand raised in a zoo!

This is not a Yorkshire Terrier, OK? It is not conventionally cute. But adorable.....it is.

In addition, some of the indigenous people on Madagascar think seeing an aye-aye is a sign that someone will die, and so they kill the animals on sight.
Uhm... Seeing a lion flying at you is a sign that someone will die, not just seeing a cute lil monkey-monkey.

Babe...irrational & ignorance die hard. Today....I know this more than evah.

Also why, the singular, neo-
Shakespearean David Chase, in one of the final episodes of The Sopranos, had Paulie, in fear of & response 2 a wise cat character who 'knew"something was, well, unholy about Christopher (read: that he had been murdered by sociopath Tony) and cat sat staring at Christoher's photo....typically brilliant Chase fictional touch....Pauie said, "You can't even leave them around babies....they suck the breath right out of them!"

U realize there R people who do believe that about cats, right?

Re: The AYES have it

Don't know if it's my system, my KB....but I am V fast & coordinated so that can't B it.....but I can't do the capture of a frame in the video; I don't get wut I try 2 capture. Nobody waste time on this.....I think I am meant to stick to the koalas...and just cherish the Ayes, if not when I boot my desktop.

Wut I really luv is that I could download this video and park it in My Videos! Thank U BBC!

If you like that, you should try and get hold of David Attenborough's "Life on Earth" series, also produced by the BBC.

O! Good suggestion, John....don't I know him from PBS? Does he do ecolocation like the Ayes do?

But that we could actually download and keep the video marks sumthin about UK sensibility often missing here.....though U can download Google videos.....but not U Tube. So generous of them! I identify with all other creatures. I mean it. and all of them move me deeply....but among primates, the Aye is really special.

Maybe carpenters could hire them to locate things behind walls! Like where to drill to install the toggle bolts!
They could pay them in grub money! And they will never B money GRUBBERS...U can just tell.

LOL.

Details of all his series are here. You may be able to get second hand sets on Amazon or ebay. "Life on Earth" was actually given away free with the Daily Mail some months ago.

Re: The AYES have it

To take a shot from a video clip you need to right click in it while its playing, choose options/advanced and untick 'use overlays'. Click ok then apply, ok. It will cause some loss of quality on some videos but handy for a screenshot.
