hand cranked........

My question is, why do these kids or people need these laptops to begin with?

sounds more like some political deal to get certain people these laptops.

Some part of this not clear? Hummm? U think there is some nefarious PLOT not covered by THE Patriot Act, maybe? u MEAN THOSE WHO, IF WE DON'T KILL THEM in the hundreds of thousands FOR NO REASON THERE and turn the remaining 17 humans who already don't hate us for good reason.....will come here?

DID U EVER HEAR OF MIT? U think they are in league with wut, SATAN?

God....is there no hope for human intelligence & Identifying with The Other????????? And so, a modicum of hope for our collective survival??????

I think the food-water-air thing for those kids should be resolved before dishing out hi-tech goodies. There are more important things in life, and especially their lives. That is based on my assumption of who those kids are being right.

Re: MS True Colors

I agree, but these R not mutually exclusive. U can learn almost anything via the net.....and B inspired to exceed the protractions of the paltry hand fate dealt U.

I'ts not about people doling chat rooms or surfing for escape or making My Spage pages.....the potential is infinite.

Isn't it also interesting....that I was moved to post the link to reveal the distilled essence of Mr. Gates....interesting that everyone is tapdancing around this telling/galvanizing event which spoke that essence unambiguously & shamlessly: ignoble, insensitive, insatiable....approaching megalomania.

Now here, boys & girls....is the polar opposite of, antidote to Mr. Gates and his reprehensible ilk. And....part of his, THIS GENTLEMAN'S complex and worldclass geneosity....has also involved getting computers to the disenfranchised.

Again no element is antithetical to any other element. Not like the Vatican...wherein people tout sitting with some dying of HIV and go on being pivotal in perpatuating that very plague...now pandemic.

We don't have a paltry hand Jill, life is good for us, all of us.

We should give the poor what they need, not what we think we, and therefore they, need (we are incredibly arrogant). I wasn't educated using computers until I was around 16 and even then I didn't need it, it isn't necessary for us or them, it is just useful for us now.

My point is the technology is only worth it in developed societies where the basic things needed for living are there already.

Re: MS True Colors

Truly, Phil? For ALL OF US? Life is good? And YOU rail against "ARROGANCE"???????? Stop eating yr pillow and read YOUR POST WITH BRAIN ENGAGED!

Talk about "giving to the poor".....forgive me, Phil, but poverty, like currency, manifests in many forms.....sincerely regret 2 say... I believe this last post is a staggering example of the former.

And...the ultimate irony..statistically stunning....though also predictable: ....is, like Bullet...this really is astonishing but defining....U, Phil, also have Mars conjunct Uranus natally.....though your conjunction is in Scorpio. Also Venus squaring natal Uranus. Would explain wut these describe including early issues, even often abuse....but wut would the point B? In, that is....the midst of unwitting poverty. Sorry. It is wut it is.

Re: MS True Colors

Thats not true colors... its one mans opinion, this 100 dollar laptop is BS to begin with... its someone EXPLOITING the develping regions by say "hey look, its only $100 buy it"

But whatever, I don't live there so I don't care, they want to spend $100 on a computer instead of food and water thats fine by me. Last I'll discuss on this BS topic...

Lets slam a person because he has an opinion then classify the entire company as being a**holes

Re: MS True Colors

I also feel that certian TRUE needs should come before slapping a laptop into some destitute kid's hands. Many places where these things are going barely have clean water and we whine when the pressure drops a bit!

I hardly see how a wind-up laptop will be educational. We blame the commercial breaks in television for ADD in kids. How will having to stop and crank for a few minutes contribute to a good learning experience?

I was fortunate enough to have a computer (my first Mac <3) when I was about 10 and that was essentially a replacement for the old typewriter we had. In the years to come it was still just a word processor. By the time I finished high school there still wasn't much information (of the useful sort) on the Internet so it really played no major role in my education. I don't see how having a laptop in a place with no Internet connectivity will help. And what of teaching people how to use these things? My laptops make mighty fine cup holders and I'm sure others do the same. Who's to say these things won't end up just being something to sit on?

Regardless of all your drama Jill I'm not impoverished, we all display a multitude of qualities including arrogance and ignorance. It's what make us human. If we didn't we would indeed be impoverished. Consider only the tangibles though - when you go home tonight and see the roof over your head, the running water streaming steadily and reliably from your taps and the light created using electricity, also reliably generated, you should think yourself very very lucky to have had the chance to live in a society where these things can be taken for granted and you should consider yourself fortunate to have had the opportunity not to bother with education or a job, because for many it isn't a choice. Open your eyes Jill, it's not likely you've ever experienced poverty, neither have I and neither will most of us, and you say this is a paltry hand .

This is a paltry hand:

Sorry, I couldn't resist

We have it good because we have the options, we weren't born into poverty, so don't have a go at me if some people in western society are having a hard time because he/she didn't choose wisely earlier in life, they have nobody to blame but themselves. Generally.

In essence, unless they have the things that genuinely make lives good like food, clean water, homes and power the laptop idea is completely nuts. Bill needs to wake up and sniff the dirty water.

Re: MS True Colors

I say don't give them laptops, but good schools, good books, good teachers. You always build on the foundation. Without the fundamentals what good is everything else? As far as MicroSoft, every business in the business of making money, so that is no surprise. It is the purpose of being in the business to begin with. However, Bill Gates does do alot of charity work, and he doesn't have to, so he can't be too bad. This is only my opinion, though, so no offense inteneded.

Looking through the eyes of the rich though, you have to give out to charity if you like it or not, it takes the heat off of you and you wont look like a greedy moron.

Seriously what is bill gates going to do with 50 billion dollars anyway?

Wink Re: MS True Colors

I think that there are plenty of rich people who are not giving to any charity. I think he is mostly going to worry about not losing his 50 billion. That has to be about all you can do with that much...

Re: MS True Colors

Too much OMG U must B kidding above 4 me to address individually.
And a stunning absence of "Eyes by Marcel."

Also blind obedience to some version of a "CO." Structurew, for some....is safety--the more rigied & simplistic, the more conforting....means nobody has to develop as unique individuals.

I have known abject poverty. As an adult. It hleped me grow and reclaim every indigenous part of myself---others might not have survived this interval.....and without ever loosing my integrity, my heart.....my essence. The latter was huge lesson.....given this long interval was litmus test.

Was also raised by very conservative parents.....started working sumers when I was 13. But that was not abject poverty. That came later.

I can now identify the polemics of rage and isometrics....hardly the same as heady exchanges between and among seekers....and identifywindows nailed shut.....soooo painful always 4 me to accept.....wreaks havoc on my deepest conviction that we r all infinite in our potential......but in this, right now, I accept it. However briefly given it is not my core nature.

Some "walls" papier mache and painted to look like brick, often out of fear....and others.....well, actual brick!!!!!

Nobody does anyone but themselves a favor by passionately, rabidly delving with oppen mind andf eyes....seeking objective truth. Starting...within THEMSELVES.

Every gesture emenating from an individual....speaks volumes about that individual.....B it Mr. Gates...."speaking" the history of his company....which I can't believe anyone interested in this technology isn't happily moved to read.....or some members here.

If so relegated---and that is the issue, RELEGATED---individuals will spin anything they have to...anyway they R compelled. e.g., Evolution is just a theory.....God made the world in 7 days. Had 2 hurry cause he din wanna miss American Idol, OK?

Ok one more....chiken feet (they don't really have hands that much, OK? Too FOUL) ....THEIR FEET are in no way paltry; they are, as every indigenlous part of every species.....perfectly evolved over millenia. If U just focus on that....and how U formed that cnclusin, forget went thru the trouble of finding an image.....U will B beginnibg a Real Journey. TO CLARITY & AWARENESS WITHIN. Famous saying, "JUST START WITH THE CHICKEN FOOT, OK?" ALL AUTHENTIC paths.....lead to Rome. C second part of my current signature.

Please.....I feel embarrassed just typing this. Is this not a given? Just the CHIcken FOOT ISSUE????
O wait....I forgot, HE made the world in 7 days....then watched Idol.....no milenia invoved....sorry, I was just being ARROGANT, Ok?

U know....kind like Darwin.....blech!! sooooo not God fearing!!!!! Unlike the thank goodness, now dead Mr. Falwell. Now there, boys & girls was a real purveyor/promulgator of truth, health, intelligence and the collective survival!!!!!!!

Have fun with the joy sticks....Jilly....is putting down the claw hammer she yet agasin did not anticipate she would B moved to pick up; the WINDOWS (PUN INTENDED) R NAILED SHUT.....THE AIR FETID & u EITHER GET THAT and R moved to get yr own claw hammer....to pry out the nails....or maybe don't have that option. (Which I neva really believe, it is way too painful.)

Sometimes...potential remains only that in perpetuity. Tragic, but true. Result is classic Bard: Shoot the Messenger.

Ain't exactly The Age of Enlightenment, alas.

Ciao!
