Rant for Giant Retailers

Ok I got some beef with major retailers, Best Buy (geek Squad), Wal-mart. But like all major companies, they have alot problems thats just never fixed, its more about money then customer satifaction.

Wal-mart the biggest issue I have has not only been how each store has a different setup, like the Electronics in one store is in the middle, in another its to the far right in the back, this is rather annoying among all stores though, but let me talk about Job application.

Job Applications and working for Wal-mart is probably the worst experience anyone will have, not that I have worked for walmart but my brother and law has. The Job application consist of questions that needs right answers like taking a school test, to make things worse, the answers to those questions are never applied to the current employees anyway. Like a question on the application could be; If their was a customer in need of help looking for a certain product, would you (A) Immediately stop all work and help them? (B) Continue working and ask another employee to assist the customer? (C) Just give directions on where the product might be?.

Well first off let me say A or B being the obvious answer, you would never get that kind of help in Wal-mart anyway. I cant count how many times I looked for help in this giant retailer and no one would know *** they doing to begin with, I mean I would think if you know something about the area your assigned to like electronics, frozen foods, ect.... that the particular person would be assigned to this area to work in, however thats not the case. Instead the people working in these areas dont even know what anything is, they know nothing more about the place they work in then a casual customer does. I come to the conclusion that if a job application is like this and the anwser to these questions is never applied to the current employees, then what credibility does this store has and why should I work for a fraud?

That being said lets talk about products in the store, I will go out and say appliances never work, toasters, air conditioners, heaters, coffee pots, stuff like this just flat out goes out within a years time. I have bought 2 heaters from walmart and they went out in months time. Someone I know bought a gas weedeater, electic hedge trimmer, and something else I cant remember but they went out in a years time. *** is it with buying anything electric from walmart? Its a sin to do it. Then theirs the rolling back on prices, by the time you get to the register with all the taxes you spent more and saved nothing in the long run. In the end I still go here, although my recommendation to all is watch what you buy.

Best Buy........

This place is no better, while this place might have what you looking for, you end up spending 5 times as much for it then any where else. unlike Walmart though I will say Bestbuy does have customer help all the time. But I seen a pic someone posted on gametrailers.com of a Pokemon Diamond game which was resealed and must of been returned at Best Buy.........price tag was $45....***???? I can buy the game sealed and brand new for $30 elsewhere. Bestbuy is a ripoff, but the only good side to it is it will have what you looking for all the time.

Geek Squad is where they hope to make more money, this piece of s*** ripoff service offered should be a crime. Not only do they charge over a hundred dollars to look at it, it may cost you several hundred dollars to take a computer to them and get it fixed, only so that when you get it back the problem was not fixed or made worse and you spent serious money for nothing. Dont get me started with their diagnostics, I will say they couldnt diagnose a computer if the only problem was the cable was unplugged.

Thats nothing new about computers shops and Geek Squad, although Geek Squad is pretty horrible, a PSU??? LOL

I betting anyone who takes their CPU to geek squad that they will try to sell something in their store that "fixes" it.

Re: Rant for Giant Retailers

I used to work in Best Buy's tech department a few years before it became Geek Squad. It wasn't the greatest position you could have, but it did get you some respect. We'd overcharge people for simple and often stupid things. You can bring in your PC and we'll plug it in and turn it on for free. Want us to open the side? $60, ma'am.

Bullocks!

I hated ripping people off day in and day out. I'd often sneak in service for people so they wouldn't get ripped. let the other techs ***** me, I was doing what the customers wanted and that's what matters.

Re: Rant for Giant Retailers

I mean, the prices 90% of computer repair people charge are ridiculous. If you could set a company up that offered FAIR prices you would be loved by everyone. Treat the customers with respect, not ripping them off and guess what.....they'll return time and time again. It also builds up trust between the company and the customer.

Well, who on Earth would charge $119.99 to plug a IDE ribbon into the harddrive?? Surely people who understand that would think the price is wayyy over the top. If that was in this country, trading standards would be on the case immediately.

Re: Rant for Giant Retailers

I worked for a PC shop that had decent prices.

To trouble shoot a PC or give advice was 20 bucks

To work on it was 40 bucks, plus parts.

The owner of the store was just a net profit of 150 bucks a day after employee cost and since he only had one employee working for him he normally met his goal.
