Next target of cell phone industry: navigation
Over the paste decade, cell phones have added cameras, text messaging, games and full Internet access. So what's next? GPS based turn-by-turn navigation, of course .

Re: Next target of cell phone industry: navigation
I've got the Nokia N73. It's a great phone, does everything when it isn't crashing and the camera is fantastic. The problem is, I don't use any of the nonsense it has to offer. People don't use the nonsense, most people really just want a phone to make and recieve calls, text, take pictures and video and maybe a little bit of internet use. I do.
I can't see it working, phones are trying to do too much and they don't work properly because of it. Look at everything Bill Gates has been involved with! Learn the lessons people.

Re: Next target of cell phone industry: navigation
I guess I am old fashioned: I want my phone to work as a phone and nothing more.

I have had sat nav on my phone for a year now, I wouldn't be without it, absolute godsend, and the best part with it on your phone is your not restricted to the car, you can use it on foot as well, I have a Nokia 6600 currently, best phone I ever had and it can do anything any of the newer phones can do with the right application, I'm just waiting for the N95 to come up on 3 then I will get that, has a 5 mega pixel camera, thats more than my digital camera has lol, best thing they ever did IMHO.

Re: Next target of cell phone industry: navigation
People are getting so stupid, a mobile/cell phone is used for making CALLS and TEXTING! If it does anything else, then it is a PDA. Phones aren't phones anymore, they are just PDAs/Pocket PCs. I don't see how you can call it a phone anymore, it's like calling a laptop a instant messanger.

Well the correct term for these phones is smart phones, and yes of course I can navigate without them, but why on earth would I want several maps and route plans etc (the old fashioned way of doing it) with all the hassle of tracking your whereabouts while figuring your next turn etc when you can simply type in a post code and go ?no mess no wasting time deciding which way is the best etc, just start driving and it tells you your next turn is coming, better than going along and seeing it pass by because you didn't realise it was that close.
Obviously getting form town to town isn't to bad for normal motoring, but if your after a specific address\road and you have no idea of the area and it's 3 am what are you going to do ? get your map out and find it doesn't have enough detail to help ? I'll stick with my sat nav mixed in with some common sense thanks lol.

Re: Next target of cell phone industry: navigation
I don't have a cell anymore 'cause I was sick of the shoddy service from Sprint and all their hidden fees. I'll stick with my home phone for now.
If I wanna send someone a "text" message I'll write a letter.
