Re: Teen driving rules

How stupid. Whats wrong with driving round with a car full of mates having a fun time. It would be boring driving round by yourself.

Also, what stops police pulling people over for a vehicle examination then nicking the driver for having too many friends.

Do societies now want us to have less friends?

Re: Teen driving rules

Well, here it is 17+ before you can learn to drive, and they were apparently making that 18, but it doesn't seem to have been enforced. If you are under 17, I don't think you should be driving, you are still young, and not all that clever.
Well, if it wasn't for chavs, there would be hardly any accidents on roads, and they are the ones that knock our insurance bills right up! Well, not for me yet

Re: Teen driving rules

<Law enforcement won't be able to pull teens over solely for having too many passengers. But they can be ticketed for the offense if stopped for another violation.>

Boom!!! Its nothing but a revenue generator! Therefor it was a waste of tax dollars to even bring that law into existence. Waste of time and not even a priority offense!

Re: Teen driving rules

I think it's a reasonable limitation. We have similar here in Ct and nobody complains (except the kids and they don't count ) There are other limitations placed on teens also...

And doesn't the UK (or maybe its the EU) have limitations on horsepower or speed for new drivers? Not here. A 16 year old can go out and get a GSXR1000 that will do 180 mph. Now that's really dumb...

Re: Teen driving rules

As far as i know there is no HP limit on new drivers, however there is such a rule on new motorbike riders. 125cc for first two years or until 21

They had better not raise the limit. Im 17 in Oct 26th and look forward to driving hugely.

I dont agree that chavs cause accidents. Its averaged that elderly people cause more accidents than the younger generations.

Quote:
According to the Study distractions led to significant increases in which drivers failed to respond and increase the time it took to respond to highway-traffic situations. Complex phone conversations created the greatest distraction. Relative increase in chances of a highway-traffic situation going unnoticed ranged up to 29% for complex phone conversations. A higher effect of cellular phone use & response to highway-traffic situations was the worst for the older age group ranging in age 50 to 80.

Some facts:

selected age groups of car drivers involved in accidents, by manoeuvre
Years : 1994-98 average

Re: Teen driving rules

Very similar to laws already in existence here in Washington state. They say that it is to reduce distractions, however, this begs the question (and maybe I shouldn't bring it up, you know how lawmakers are) why aren't Cellular phones and other Distractions like food and drinks, etc, banned also?

Peculiar in my opinion that they wouldn't go the whole nine yds.

EDIT: 200 more posts and I'll have my TSF license, if you know what I mean.

That's a bit out of date...
And the Chavs are the ones causing a lot of accidents, they go round in their crappy cars, with their crappy music blasting away, on their crap speakers, and then drive fast because they want to show off, and then crash their car...

I often see dents and stuff in the chavs cars, and I just think, Sucker!
All chavs should be banned from driving, simply because they can't drive.

Re: Teen driving rules

Whilst i agree that chavs shouldnt be allowed to drive, it isnt becuase they cause the most accidents. It just so happens that when they do crash the media think " oh look some teenager crashed, probably a chav, listening to music so lets have a go at all teenage drivers becuase thats the commonly held belief" Thats why young drivers have such a bad name. Most are nowhere near as bad. So blame the media and old people when you get your first insurance quote for your first car. I know someone who's first insurance quote was £2000 becuase he had a fairly nice car he had done up. Thats the problem. He wasnt a poor driver, just a stereotypical view of insurance companies.

We have those too. Under 18 cannot use a cell phone - even with a hands-free device. It is illegal in all 50 States and the DC to drive while distracted...

Re: Teen driving rules

This is kind of off topic, but I just learned that statistically red cars are more likely to get involved in an accident than other color cars. As a result, insurance premiums are higher.

How are red cars more dangerous?

I think I will just stick with my bike for the next 10 years.

They're not. It's the drivers who choose red cars that are more dangerous.

Well, I was talking about the chavs, not the younger drivers. I know plenty of non-chav good drivers, and all the bad ones, are chavs.

For the example you gave, he had expensive insurance due to him doing it up. If you moddify your car, the insurance is automaticly raised extremely high, which is fair enough... It's only really the chavs that modify their cars, as their cars really suck.
