Maybe the other teacher viewed porn... Quite frankly I highly doubt she sat down in class and started surfing for porn...
I bet its what they said it was, feel sorry for the poor lady. I've had porn pop up on a school PC before and I got in trouble for it I was steaming pissed, tried to explain I would never do somthing like that with a school PC. I bet it was an accident. So what some kids some pornographic imagnes, 90% likekly it was a accident, and its not like one day they'll go home with a friend and look for the stuff anyways. |

Thats ridiculous. Its happened to me many times inadvertently, when I've started the net and left my Ad-blockers off, and one after another 100 or so pop ups of porno nature keep reappearing. For someone who isn't well versed with computer technology, thats the sick side of it and they wouldn't have a clue how to deal with it. NO WAY 40 years, and other crimes way sicker get let off free. Why not prosecute the mags and papers that kids can see dropped here and there with porn freely available for them? No obviously, thats too difficult a task with wealthy corporations and this is an easy catch, simply.
Anyone using a computer, and especially teaching another SHOULD at least learn and know the basics of whats on it though and how to tackle it. There is no way any teacher will out porn in class for students, even though they be inverted pedophiles. That would clearly suggest she didn't do it on purpose and there's nothing of a crime that took place. Injustice. |

I am actually kinda suprised that the school did not have any type of content filtering appliance or software on their network.
It would seem to me that the school district is in neglect. A majority of businesses have web content filtering just because of this. To avoid a lawsuit. |

Definitely. I'm surprised that the school didn't have anti-malware.

To me there are two problems.
The first is that the teacher REALLY needs to be brought up to speed on modern computing and system security. The second is that the school ought to have systems in place to prevent data like that from making it in. I've been around the 'Net enough to know that porn popups don't come from www.pbs.org.

The teacher aught to turn it around and sue the school because their lack of content filtering exposed her to those awful images and emotional distress...
And I agree with EB - hair dressing sites - I'm sure.

Re: Teacher loses job after children see naked sculpture in museum
Came across this article related to this thread.
http://www.networkworld.com/columnis...7backspin.html I'm sorry to say but if this teacher is an employee of the school district, then they are as much as fault as the teacher is since the school district is responsible for her actions. I love this quote. Quote:
I'm sorry I ranted on over this but the US judicial system really needs a major overhaul. I could get even deeper into the law enforcement side but that would be a different subject. |

Re: Teacher's porn conviction sparks tech debate
I've had a porno ad pop up on my PC at a school I was at. Quite frankly I didn't know what to do, tell a teacher, exit out of it and pretend it never happened or walk away.
I figured if I tell a teacher they might think i'm looking at porn on a school PC. Exit out and pretend that it never happened and the admins might see the log and come after me. Walk away, well the computer was assigned to me what am I supposed to do they'll track it back to me. This lady should get no more then a slap on the wrist for her crime. From all the information gathering i've done on this case, to me its more the schools fault then anyone elses fault. I mean they didn't have their updated software to block exactly this kind of activity. I gotta tell you if my school didn't mointor their PCs, and keep their software up to date we kids would have a hay day. But in my school the IT admin told me they tend not to chase after poeple who get around their filters, blockers, etc they look at the logs study how they did it and then fix it. Then the kids come up with a new way to do it. Then they find a new way to stop it. |

Re: Teacher's porn conviction sparks tech debate
Judging from the original date this article was discussed and by the verbage of the link you are suggesting I am guessing that the material therein contained is questionable.

Re: Teacher's porn conviction sparks tech debate
I wish the article was still there but no matter what it was I don't feel anyone should go to prison inless they are storing illegal content on the hard drive. Was this a kid porn or adult porn site? If adult, suck it up. Things like this happen and no one is hurt..
