good for multitasks , not for gaming .

Performance
As we've seen in the benchmarks Core 2 Quad has its sweetspot with heavily multithreaded environments, hardly surprising. Because of the lower frequency, when compared to X6800, QX6700 isn't quite able to keep up when there is just one or two threads. The FSB which is used by both the cores and the northbridge, and in turn the RAM makes it impossible for the processor to reach its full potential. When the choice is between a QX6700 and a X6800 the user should really think about what the processor will be used for. When it comes to heavy multitasking QX6700 is the obvious choice, while applications and games where the frequency is the decisive factor X6800 is a better choice.

yeah already read the reviews 2 weeks back had em on anandtech as well. unless thers more multithreaded games there wont be much use unless for big clustering environments.

valve is slowly devloping their multi core technology once that will be out having more then 1 or two cores will be usefull.

intel officially announced the kentsfield core today so i assume we will see more of them hitting online retailers and also local stores.

of course this disscustion would become mute is companies other than apple would write os's that could properlly use multi-core cpus. when they first started using dual cpus, they noticed that app writers were not making apps that could even see the second cpu, let alone try to use it. so with the release of os x, they put all that control with the os. so when an app makes a call to the cpu, the os keeps track of which cpu has what going on, and then sends the task to the cpu that will get to it first. in this manner, even games do see an increase when running on a dual cpu mac when compaired to a single chip. then once these dual cores came out, apple had no problems useing them, even in multi-chip, multi-core systems. what gets me is that even with vista, you still don't see this kind of aproch with microsoft. instead the assign an app per core/cpu. so if you have, lets say, photoshop and ms paint open, they each get a seperate core, and even though paint isn't even using it any where near its max, photoshop can't touch it when it goes off to render. anyway, time to go...

well im sure adobe will derive their own multicore technoilogie. have you looked at the new valve source engine approach (ohh and yeah that doesnt run on a mac :p) what they are doing is splitting up the different aspects of rendering sound visuals physics etc to one core and if they need more power they will distribute it even more.

i saw a post on anandtech i believe where they dropped two kentsfield into a new mac and it showed the 8 cores being usuable so that is truely nice but since i cant render 3dsmax files on a mac thers no use for it to me nor can i play the games i want to play makes me sad if i could id get a mac.
