Deep Fried Computing!!!
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread....1104341&page=1
This is probably the craziest PC 'mod' I have ever seen. Apologies if it's been posted before... but even if it has, it deserves more attention!!! *boggle* |

That's so cool! A good alternative if you're running a dedicated server from your house and the power bill is getting a little pricey.

The problem lies in stopping the oil from solidifying.

yeah water is conductive lol ever drop a hairdrier into a bath tub ^^
any mineral or vegetable oil will work. id prefer some clear oil and some uv reactive stuff to make that thing gloooow. thers a website somewhere floting aroudn the web where a guy did a whole project on this (i think he was german not sure) but yeah its nice. how not to let it solidify ? just drop a fan in there ... and it will circulate but im sure itl get smelly after a while

I'm sorry, but you're wrong.
Water is not electrical-conductive. Now, water in it's un-pure form (i.e. tap water, bottled water) contains minerals that DO conduct electricity. It is not the water itself, but the minerals & "particles." If you could acquire water in it's purest of form, it would not conduct electricity.

The boiling point of distilled water is 100 C. Whenit reaches that temp it is boiling! Boiling is defined as when the vapor pressure of a liquid reaches that of atmosphere. And yes, if heated, distilled water will liberate vapor and at that point the vapor pressure will reach atmospheric = boiling. What may not happen is the bubbling action you're used to seeing when you boil tap water. The minerals and contaminants in the tap water create surfaces for the formation of the bubbles. LINK
Its the same principal as what happens when you drop a Mentos into a Pepsi bottle.

water doesn't conduct. My physics teacher also did a demo where he used a regular maglight under water (a fish tank). I told him to use a tesla coil, but he politely declined. (Preconceptions die hard, I guess
)

I think I've read this before but I don't know. Either way it's freakin' awesome!
I saw another one where they used some sort of refrigerant. Chilled it enough to OC a Celeron from 366 to 600+ easily.

Oil in a computer case is a bad idea- it'll actually start to degrade and rot.
