That's because we have so many citizens who don't go to college here, but if you compared the college students here to those in other countries you'd probably get better results.

nope, not at all, if the teacher stated that phones were not to be tolerated/allowed during class at the start of the semester. and since the student stayed in the class, he then agreed to the terms, and must accept the consequences. its a simple example of how real life works.

Because the syllabus probably said that all phones used in class would be smashed right? I'm all for smashing the cell phone, but if this happened at Pensacola Christian College they would still have had to pay back the money.

When I teach I instruct my students to silence or turn of cell phones and pagers. If they NEED to make to take a call (does anyone ever?) they can just slip outside the room and outside the building.

You are in a classroom to learn. Period.

Crap eh? I would say that law is crapper. I am 99.9% sure it is illegal over here. Personal property, the teacher has no right what so ever to brake it. I know I would be forcing the teacher to pay if they did that to any of my equitment... Trust them...
