No ten gigs for w00t

I went into compusa the other day to buy a new 2.5 hdd for my top because there was no decerning wether it was a laptop or a blender running linux (hmm good idea), SO I asked one of their "technologists" if they had a ten gig hdd because thats all I needed. Heck I can live happily on 4 gigs, while dual booting. Really I only use linux and programs that are less than a meg fit nicely on small hdd's, and music and pictures and all that good stuff I like to keep portable so I can travel with it.

The smallest they had was a 40gig. Now I'm swimming in free space , I could get used to this, but I still feel cheated. What ever happened to the good old days, when hard drives were small.

[The following is not intended as spam]

Hey they got a good deal going with three 1 gig thumbys for 60 bucks and its the only black and white pny's i've seen, that was a good deal.

Ha! 60 bucks? I've seen them at Staples for maybe 30 after the rebates.

I suppose you're a minimalist when it comes to storage. I would never be able to handle a 40GB hard drive- not enough space for media. Mine's 120GB, and I only have 10GB left

I'll need to buy a usb enclosure for my 160GB 3.5" drive to use in college, depending on whether or not I can get around the bandwidth limit, which is currently 2GBytes per week. Absolutely ridiculous for someone whose daily average is 1.5GB.

I've got a 500MB 2.5" laptop drive that I use for boot testing older machines. I have an 80MB drive somewhere from my 386SX 16.

Yes three for 60 dollars, and a $20 rebate to boot so that comes out to $40 for three, now you just need to argue over who gets the black one.

What about a reel to reel 480K tape drive from really old servers. Thats cool, I would love to have one of those just to look at.

I once pulled a 800 mb drive froma server, and the thing look like it would take up three cd drives. Good paper weight.

Volt-shwibe take it I already got one.

There's a place here in town where I can get a 5-pack o' 10GB drives for $40. Might grab some for the P1's I have taking up space in my dining room. Now I just need a few of those old serial->PS/2 adapters.

The army uses UNIX, and linux is a unix clone. That would be my guess.

My MUSIC collection takes up 11 gigs alone w00t. Throw in my ripped DVDs and everything, and I had to throw a lot of stuff away when I got stuck with my lousy 40 gig hard drive in my laptop.

Anyway, I put my old PII back together as a fileserver, and its got like 70 gigs of space. I know I'm gonna run out before I finish college.
