Again Dell frustrates me

I think this thread: Dell D505 Latitude getting hot underneath

Helps to further my theory that it's not the batteries at fault, but more the computer not cooling properly to begin with. I've always had over heating problems with Dells (and Macs, which are also affected) because they design their laptops inefficiently. The laptops get too hot, don't have good circuitry for stopping the battery from charging when it's full, and all this leads to the battery bursting or catching on fire.
But what happens? Don't blame the real problem: the laptop itself. No, blame it on the other company that makes the battery. Solution? Just make a more insulated battery that's less affected by heat. I know Sony may not be entirely free of fault in this one, but I've never had a problem with their design work. But the laptops are more expensive to recall, so blame it on someone else...

(P.S. Sorry for the rant, Dell and Mac just really frustrate me when they blame their problems on somebody else.)

You really walk thin lines man

And to Ralck, I have read somewhere that Apple admitted that it was the faulty Sony battery in their laptop, but this was a few weeks ago so I don't remember where,......

Hey, my Sony get's hot too (when 'gaming'; i.e. CS1.6 or Starcraft). The thing about our laptops, is they get hot in the 'right' places and not in the 'wrong' places. I mean, they don't get hot around the battery, contributing to the battery overheating. You can't deny a laptop isn't going to get hot, but you can make sure it ventilates the heat to the correct areas so that things like this don't happen.

Both Dell and Mac have stated that it's a faulty battery. Whether it actually is or not, I guess only the high ups in each company really know. The fact is, it's cheaper to replace the batteries than the whole notebook, so that's their story and they are sticking to it (but I'll keep my theories).

well, i know on the macs that it is the battery. yes, i do know of the issues they had with the assembly of the new intel macs as far as applying way too much thermal paste, and they got to hot for laps because of that, but the most recent problem is in fact the battery. i have seen several pics of fried powerbooks/macbooks due to the battery. when its just the battery side of the laptop that is melted, or there is a big black square where the battery is, then you know that the battery is the one that went out, not the laptop its self. as far as dell and apple blaming sony, there's the old saying, "if the shoe fits...". none of these laptops catch fire when there is no battery in them, and to say that sony should only reline on the laptop maker that they sell batteries to to make overcharge protection is ludicrous. the battery it self should have some form of protection in it to make sure it can't over charge. besides, i have read and a couple of different sites that there is an internal short in these batteries that can cause a fire because the battery tells the laptop that its ok, so the laptop tries to charge it, and then the battery gets too hot and it catches fire.

Poor Zazula... If only he knew overclocking his monitor needed extra cooling.

Okay... so I've been proven wrong... but that doesn't mean I can't be stubborn and still dislike Dell and Apple :). All joking aside though, whether it was the battery or the laptop at fault, I don't think I'd buy a computer from either of them.

Well, I'm the oposite. I'll buy a laptop from either because I've never had a problem with them.

Oh, another thing Dell annoys me with, they use spyware and malware to advertise. I think what they do is pay the spyware companies to do it. Correct me if I am wrong. But I know they use malware, as when our family computer got infected, we got loads of Dell advertisement pop-ups, even when we had no browser open!

Uhh...yea.. I'll have to disagree with you. I don't know what websites you family computer goes to but never happens to me.
