You win. Please don't bother my family anymore
UCLA neurobiologist gives up his research, sends message to animal rights : "You win. Please don't bother my family anymore"
http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2006/08/22/animal Thanks again for impeding scientific progress, jerks. the president of Peta condemned the use of animal-tested products yet she takes insulin for her diabetes... Ingrid Newkirk has also stated that when she dies, she wants to be cooked, eaten, and her skin used as leather. http://www.peta.org/feat/newkirk/will.html I tell ya- I want to be at that BBQ.

Similar clowns in this country actually dug up the remains of the mother of a researcher and held them for 'ransom' - terrorists is what they are, nothing less.

First: I am an environmentalist. I have a degree in Environmental Engineering. It is my profession!
Second: I disagree with the philosophy and tactics of PETA. Third: I strongly believe that cruelty to animals must not be permitted. But testing on animals should be permitted when it can be demonstrated to be necessary and potentially fruitful. Forth: Testing on animals should only be done when necessary and with all measures taken to prevent suffering. For example, during testing pain medicine is not generally given to animals even though we know they experience pain. That is wrong. Would we not give some to a man if we were testing on him? Fifth: Testing of vanity products (cosmetics/diets/food additives) on animals should not be allowed nor should the wearing of fur from endangered animals unless you live in Siberia. (Anyone with a leopard fur coat deserves what she gets.) Steps off soap box. Time for a steak and a glass of milk... ![]() |

*claps* I agree with you 100%. I'm an animal lover and I wouldn't want the animals I care for to be tortured or prohibited something that may alleviate pain.
Cosmetic testing is just stupid... I doubt dogs and monkeys are concerned with their complexion anyway.

i do agree with you yustr. but there are those that do give true environmentalists, like yourself, a bad name. and these are the ones that i send my fury toward. like here is arizona, usa, we had a really bad wildfire year. burned record amount of land. and why did the state burn so well? we are in a drought, and that didn't help, but the local tree hugging "environmentalists" wouldn't let anyone go in and thin the forest by taking out all the dead wood, and select old growth trees, because it might harm some kind of bird, owl i think it was, that lives in the state. so we had crowded old growth forests full of dead wood packed on the ground, one lightning strike, and pow, half the state burns to the ground.
now those birds, that they were protecting, really have nowhere to live.

When I lived in Germany in the 1980's, one of our good friends was the Forestmiester for a relatively large tract of land near us - about 30K long by 10K wide. The owner also owned forest land in Georgia. He described his job in Germany as managing the whole forest - trees (for profit) but also the animals, the recreational value (many very nice hiking trails), the aesthetic value, ground water quality (the supply wells for the town were adjacent), surface water quality, etc. He described this concept to the manager of the tract in Georgia - who (according to my friend) was dumb struck. All he had to do was maximize production - ie: profit.
What's wrong with fire? It's bad because it burns down a couple of houses? It wouldn't if they were build right (buffer space, tile roofs, stucco exterior, etc). Fire is one way that forests are renewed. And don't worry about the owls (not that you were). They'll do just fine. (Don't get me wrong - I do feel for those who lost lives and possessions.) The point is we have to live with nature not try to conquer it. "Mother nature always bats last." |

i feel ya, same thing happened in wyomning, but we did have the beffer space, brick exterior, and clay roof (snow) and we still had houses go up.. when the wind gets to blowing, not much is going to stop a wildland fire... this was taken from my house btw (my dad took the pic, as you can guess i wasnt there)

I love how some people base their whole argument around the idea that somehow, humans are separate from the whole ecosystem of the world. We are creatures just like everything else on this world.... we weren't left here by invading aliens to muck with the preexisting life, we are as much a balancing point of life here as anything else.
The native americans were setting fires in forests and changing the landscape long before Columbus decided to take a trip. What the europeans came into was hardly a virgin landscape that the indians had lived in tandem with.
