even though it was justified, it'll still scar him for life knowing he killed a guy. not how i'd want to remember from my teen years.

is it morally right to take someones life to save your familes?

obviously its okay "legally" to do so ...

is it religiously right to take someones life to save your families?

i wonder if i would kill a guy to save my family

I am not 17. At 17 I don't think I would have had the presence of mind to do anything other than what this kid did

It is not "religiously" right. According to the Bible, "Thou shalt not kill." "Do evil unto no man." "Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them that despitefully use you."

this is true, but also remember that this man was planning to do harm to thos he loved, so was he right? i do remember the bible giving out strict punishements to those who broke those rules, but self defense (and this was self defense if he was duct taped) is an altogether different story

If it was just a burgalar, wouldn't it have been safer to just the the person take what he wanted. If the boy hadn't stabed him right, then the man could have shot someone.

Its you shall not murder.... if you are gonna quote the bible at me, we can look at instances of a woman killing a fleeing enemy commander...

I don't believe we are supposed to "love your enemies" to the point of getting yourself killed to avoid doing harm to them.... It's ridiculous to believe that a loving God would have you sacrifice yourself to a criminal for no other reason than you don't want to see him come to harm... "love your enemies" isn't talking about laying down arms in the face of a violent person, its about being nice to the guy who treats you like dirt, respecting other's beliefs, stuff like that...

On top of that... if the man meant harm to the family, he was justified. I'd rather see an armed robber dead than a productive family dead, and I'm pretty sure God would too.....

If you read the article it says that he didn't die automatically, only after he went out of the house.

Now we could argue morals and ethics all day, but if a guy breaks into my house with a SEMI-AUTOMATIC, he's a dead man.

Sean Connery in The Untouchables.

While I do feel sorry for the young guy, I believe he acted correctly. This is an issue currently doing the rounds again here. What level of violence is acceptable when defending your property? In reality, as long as you state that you were in genuine fear for your life (or that of your family), you can get away with pretty much anything. The number of householders prosecuted in the last 30 years for being too violent is still well in single figures.

By Jesus's words, any man who takes another man's life and would not repent is condemned to hellfire.
DD, that woman...that is from the Old Testament. The old law. Jesus changed that.

In Texas, you are allowed to defend your property as you see fit.

I keep this under my bed.

I like that gun! Lol!

Under my bed... let me see...
*Looks under bed*
Well, umm... a load of junk!
Umm... I have a pool cue in the other room. Knock him on the head as hard as I can will that, to knock him out, then phone the police. That way you don't feel guilty for killing someone. You could even get two, get one person to wack the gun out his hand, and yourself to knock him out.

All I have is a 4" locking blade that I've learned to flip out as if it were a butterfly knife. I don't think it would be much of an asset in a fight unless my attacker didn't know I had it...

I don't know, mimo, I think I would have had it in me a year ago to go after this guy if he were wrestling with my dad after breaking into our house. There definitely would have been some bad dreams afterwards, but nothing I couldn't get over. Especially considering that that guy didn't even stop fighting when the kid stabbed him.
