MS to Discount Vista?

Microsoft may be discounting Windows Vista in order to lessen a predicted slump in sales for the 2006 holiday shopping season.

Clicky.

Ha! It is garenteed to constantly crash soo... And it is going to be even less stable than XP. Really, Windows needs completely re-programming. And needs to be lowered in price!

No, but my brother works in a computer shop. He tried the beta version on 5 different computers, only 1 booted, and there was a million and 1 errors. Not usable.

its been my main windows os since i got the beta2 in early june, and i have little to no problems with it, and no fatal errors. so far i have found it to be very useable, and can't wait for the rc1. but i also feel that ms needs to learn from apple, and reprice their os. apple's os is 129 for the full blown version, and 199 for a 5 licience pack. there's no different level packs of different features. if ms did that, there would be no real reason to steal it, it would almost cost more to steal then just to buy.

The problem with that is mircosoft is not making money off the hardware like apple is. Also the OS upgrades seem like nothing more than an extravagant service pack. This release of windows encompasses tons of leagacy support that apple does not have to worry about. Meaning there is that much more coding that needs to be done.

Not to change the subject but why is WIn XP Pro still $299 for the retail box? (Yes I know OEM versions are only $135 but that's not the point.) I'd figure with it going to be history in a couple of months they'd be discounting it.

But then again, the disk cost them nothing - the box costs more. They have no investment in the product once the disk is made and packaged - not like a automoble mfgr for example. But still.....

I remember they did this with Windows 98, with customers who bought computers with Windows 95 within a certain period of time, I think it was 180 days, you got Windows 98 for free. Just had to register with Microsoft.

Come on Sinclair! Mr. Gates needs to be able to stock the wine and caviar on his 100' yatch. How do you expect him to do that if he's nice to consumers?
