Born in 1987

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1987. They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

They have always had cable.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws!

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane Boss, de plane".

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Do you feel old yet?

I've had cable for only a year or less in my life

I'm in my second year of College

Other than that you're spot on. Oh, and I do know how to use a type writer I just find it excruciating.

Hmmmmm

I turned 16 that year

I could legally buy cigerettes again, yes kiddies I said again! The 16 law wasn't that old.

I started work the following summer making the brand spank new 118 RAM chips which held a massive 1mb

Now where did I leave that wrinkle cream

No worries on this one, future generations can still see these at the local dump until the end of time

Hah, 88, but whatever...

I do know how to use a typewriter, my mom used to make popcorn in the kettle, as well as those things you could cook over an open fire, but those were for camping.

I come from a poorer family, so we didn't always have cable... (anyone remember those big bulky antenna's that used to go on people's roofs?)

Wow Danrak those are pretty much 100% for me.

Except I do know how to use a typewriter, somewhat. It's just that there would be errors everywhere unless it were that special type that has the white-out built into it.

Moreover, a kid born in 1987 is unaware of what "Cold War", "Iron Curtain", "Warsaw Pact" and "Soviet Union" mean.

It's one thing to study History, and a totally different thing to live History...
just ask anyone who has fought in a War or experienced an Occupation...

(and don't worry, DD, we have thousands of years of History to study in Greece, and we do it with utter responsibility)

This is true, however, I'm hoping I never have to live through an occupation

You know, all my family has lived through occupations and wars, a lot fought, some got killed, some starved to death, all of them saw people getting killed in front of their eyes; and I could always listen my mom telling me "eat up your vegetables, coz you don't know what it is to starve to death"... and I couldn't get it... I simply detested those vegetables...

OK, I hadn't lived through a war or an occupation, and I couldn't relate to that. Still, living in a town close to the Greek-Bulgarian borders, I lived the Cold War deep inside my vains. There was army everywhere when you approached within 20 miles of the border, you were stopped by armed patrols every three minutes, all the land was full of scattered metallic pyramids to block the enemy tanks "just in case"...

Now, if I tell all these to a kid born in the eighties, how much do you think they will relate to them? They'll get upset if their DSL goes down, but apart from this...
