Attention cell phone users...
REMINDER....16 days from today, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.
.....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you are wanting to have blocked. OR GO TO: www.donotcall.gov Figured everybody might want a heads-up on this!

Thanks for reminding me, MT- I just got a new cellular phone. Last thing I need is telemarketers calling and asking for stuff from me.

I've been told on another site that Snopes lists this as being false....but personally, I'd say play it safe...register it anyway!

If you hear about it on the internet instead of the news, it is probably fake.

Either way, I hadn't put my cell number into the directory yet, so that helps me anyway.

Random question...
Why do you call them cell phones? We just call them mobile phones, it suits what the are more... |

We call them "cell" phones because of the nature of the wireless networks. The poles (sometimes called "trees") send signals only a certian distance. These pockets of signal range are called cells. As you travel, you are passed from one pole to another, or one cell to another.

I think the difference is because we call the tower the cellular base station, and in British English it's known as a 'mast'.

Sorry, sinclair, but EB is right regarding why the cellular phones are called like this. I'm citing from Wikipedia:
