A Late Hello

I never said hello when I first joined because I was too busy hoping to get an answer to a question.

So, why am I saying hello now? I have no idea.

I suppose that a good reason for creating this topic is to thank everyone who had ever been involved in setting up, moderating, and/or answering questions on this site. You have given up so much of your time to help others, and is helpful in a way that rivals a general Google search for answers.

A Google search brings up so many sites including those by posers and jerks that make fun of people who just need an answer. Some other sites that I have visited had have had helpers with only basic knowledge, so anything above "How do I get to the Command Prompt window?" go unanswered. And then there was even one site that offers both hardware and software aid, however neither you nor other were allowed to actually speak the names of any of them for recommendation! (ie: "What software would you recommend for this job" questions have be closed because no one is allowed to give any software names!)

So I guess it is worth mentioning that this seems like the perfect place for asking computer questions of all types, and I am glad that I found it!

(My God, my previous post is riddled with grammatical errors! I should proofread once in a while! )

Yes, I did. I not only received a fast and helpful answer to my general question, but the member (a mentor) went that extra mile to give me a specific recommendation.

Re: A Late Hello

Hi NotSoGeeky!

Welcome to TSF! I totally concur regarding the other tech support sites provided by a google search. When I first landed here, I was at my wits end with my particular problem. I had never been helped by ANYONE at the other sites where I sought help. I had begun to think it was a conspiracy!!

In the middle of my "cure" my phone was disconnected (I have dial-up internet. Can you believe the phone company likes to get paid for providing service? ). When I made it back I was afraid the Security Team member would be fed up by my disappearance, however to my surprise, he was very understanding.

I LOVE this place and hope you have many pleasant experiences here too!

Your new TSF friend,

Cathy

If it's any consolation, you are not alone Cathy. Another dial-up user here. My ISP loves me because I rarely ever have to call in asking for help. I see it the other way around. I am thankful for them because I have so few problems that I only have to call once a year at most.

I usually do not have problems with my computer either, but since am here, I decided I might as well get some questions out of the way and see if they can be answered.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

A bunch of the regulars including myself did that on another forum last year. It started with one person doing it as a joke, then it was followed by several more of us.

Soon, everyone who normally welcomed all of the new members were themselves being welcomed by each other and other members who normally never welcomes anyone. That was a lot of fun.

Thanks again, everyone!
