Hello there and thanks for providing all this great support for free. I'm actually quite amazed that I haven't stumbled across this forum before, but I'm here now :)
I'm all about helping people, so this place looks great. I've got 20+ years in the IT industry and there isn't much I haven't done or seen in all that time, so I am confident I can be of some help here to people. I admire the fact that this site does not charge any fees for support, and also the fact that it is not littered with ads! The fact that by donations alone y'all have managed to keep this thing up and running is a testament to just how valuable TSF is, and I am honored to be a part of it. I just pretty much jumped in and started making posts to new things that didn't already have threads going, and where I have access. I don't expect to have access to some areas for quite a while, so no big deal. What I have NOT done is go through and read all the Sticky posts in each of the forums to see what the various rules and regulations are for helping people. If there is some centralized location for that information, please be kind enough to point me in the right direction so I can become more productive :) I do work in IT professionally still, and will likely only be able to spend any real time here on weekends, but even my weekend time off is often filled with other tasks I have to perform *sigh* I will try to login as much as possible to help as I can, especially on any follow-up posts of my own design. While I may be great at tech support, I'm simply awful when it comes to talking about myself, but I will try a bit... Over the years I have worked on everything from mainframes to PDAs, had all sorts of industry certifications (A+, MCP, MCSE, ASE, DCSE, etc...) for what all THAT crap is worth. I would consider myself more of a hardware person than a software person, but I have spent an inordinate amount of time on software issues, mainly on all of the Windows platforms (Thanks, Bill!), though I have experience on almost every OS out there. Part of what I do for a living is actually Tech Support at times, though I find myself more involved with Special Projects now than I really would have imagined a few years ago... Aside from computer related things, I do enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching movies (especially SCI-FI), and am a pretty big Anime fan, though I'm sure that's not odd at all here :) I also like to read. Anything. "Words on paper" is what my wife calls it. It's almost a compulsion, to be honest, and I've been that way since childhood. Most of all, I love learning new things and how things work. I also enjoy Astronomy, Comics, Pharmacology (actually working on getting the Degree now...), Dogs, Music (especially Jazz), long philosophical or scientific discussions in-person, on IRC, or on web forums (also a vBulletin admin), playing video games and doing volunteer work whenever I can, which actually isn't that difficult since I work for a large nonprofit entity. In my "spare time" I sleep. Sometimes. That's all I can think of unless someone has any questions. :) Well, I have to go now and help my grandmother with her computer because I am, after all, official family-tech-support-guy, which I am sure is quite familiar to many of you fine people :) Cheers! |

Re: Hello Everyone!
Thank you for all the replies! :)
My big limiting factor is time. I will pretty much only be helping out on weekends, provided I don't already have family plans for those days as well. Good to be here! |
