Hello
Just came over from TSG.
![]() I'm a Navy vet trying to do something useful for a change. I left the service earlier this year and now I'm trying to get into the computer technical support field. I started working on A+ certification and will be going to school for software development in the spring. I joined TSF and TSG to improve what I already know. When I was a kid people would give me old computers that were broken and I'd revive them just enough to play games. Some of you might remember Wolfenstein 3D, I got that running on a laptop that wouldn't boot. Other than that, I've taken apart and reassembled every electronic device I've ever owned, and they still work! I'm better known now for my work with computers. Every where I go, I develop a reputation for being the guy to ask about computers, which many of you probably know is not hard to do in most crowds. Once you learn one cool trick, everyone starts bringing you broken PCs, and then Google becomes your closest friend. But after a while, you begin to live up to their expectations. I never had a problem fixing people's computers for free, as these things inevitably have problems and repairing them is a service everyone needs but can't necessarily afford. I find the current prices of a good tech to be on the ridiculous side, most of them don't even have a passion for computers like many of us, geeks. One of my elderly neighbors was charged $60 to have someone come change an internet setting! I told her she can call me anytime she has a problem, and all I ask in return is a cup of tea (though even this is not a condition of my assistence.) I'd say my strength is Windows XP (all service packs and editions) but I am almost equally proficient in every other Microsoft operating system. My experience with hardware is limited but I know a great deal already, I only wish I knew more. I guess that is one of the things I hope to improve upon. I have some basic skills as well, like good troubleshooting techniques(hardware and software issues,) becoming familiar with any user interface in a short period of time (an excellent way to become proficient with any program in a few hours,) and of course anyone who seeks knowledge can find a limitless supply in Google, if they are adept at using it and understanding the way in which it retrieves pages. I am here to help anyone I can that has a computer problem and teach anyone who wants to learn (or at least point them in the right direction ,) everything I know (which is more and more everyday.)I suppose that should do it for me, I'm sorry if my introduction was a bit too long and now I'm afraid you might be rather bored. And I hope there is no resentment held against TSF's sister/brother site TSG. They are both great sites for people who have a passion for the electronic universe. Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction, I look forward to posting in your forum. |
