A Tale of the Searching Fool

Once upon a time, there lived a fool who created a little story of travels with a little free program called Microsoft Picture Story 3 for Windows.

Then, woe be to the tragic fool, when he went to email his little story to his foolish friends, his foolish and forlorn msn email told him that the story was too long and that probably nobody but a fool would want to hear his tale anyway.

In the hope of not becoming just another of history’s great tragedies, the fool searched the Internet for some comparative reviews and evaluations of compression software and email services that might enable the pathetic wretch to send his story.

Low and behold, upon viewing the great array of so many, many options, the poor fool was struck as by a bolt of lightening from the great beyond.

Upon recovering slightly, the intrepid waif opened his pitiful coin purse and counting his meager reserve of denarii. Determined to search for the toll free number of a support service which he might be able to afford that could suggest a course of action and the best solution to his dilemma.

This quest has led this poor fool here.

Will anyone take pity and off a mere suggestion…….he is a veteran and feeds the poor foolish ducks in deep winter?

PS, the poor old fool is near blind from all this searching so a nice large font size would be nice.

PS again, the poor old wretch doesn’t understand forums so a nice little email to his foolish msn would also be nice.

Re: A Tale of the Searching Fool

Hi,

TSF is short for Tech Support Forum. If you go to the home page on the forum, there is an area called the Microsoft (MS) area. You can post your problem in that area under the proper heading. You need also to look at the link dai posted (I didn't see that before) to give you assistance. He must have posted that while I was typing.

Okey dokey. First welcome to TSF, which if you haven't already worked out stands for Technical Support Forum, where you now are This sub-forum that you are in, namely Introductions, is simply for that purpose. To get an answer to your question (although one was posted earlier i.e. the link to Winzip), you need to post your question in the relevant sub forum where there are staff who specialise in that particular subject. On the opening page of TSF you will see a list of all the subforums. You need to be in the MS (Microsoft Support) forum. Select the section for your operating system and post your query there and someone will be along to deal with it. Don't expect an instant reply cos we get inundated with queries and the forum is manned bu volunteers who also have day jobs, families etc. etc. I've even put it in big print for you.

EDIT: Sorry Mark, you must have snook in whilst I was composing mine.

Does John the Pilot mean you fly airplanes?

If I told you that I have an IP at 168, angels 36, would you have any idea what I’m talking about?

Probably not, unless you are a pilot or an air traffic controller.

I speak that gibberish as well as architectural drafting, plumbing, electrical, cooking, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish and a few other languages but I don’t speak Computer Geek which is why I come to a help forum to ask questions about it.

I also don’t speak to regular folks in any of these languages because I don’t automatically expect them to understand them. I would consider it, at best, ineffective and, more importantly, rude and arrogant to do so.

It means a new blip (Initial Plot) has just appeared on my radar screen which is at an azimuth of 186 degrees from my radar site and is flying at and altitude of 36 thousand feet.

What would be nice, is if someone would read my post earnestly and try to answer my question without insidiously scolding or admonishing me for my ignorance on the subject about which the question was asked.

Hi,
Yes, I did know what you meant. I can even post a copy of my pilot's licence if you want. I also didn't speak computerese to you. I explained carefully in easy-to-understand language the procedure for posting a query on our forum. I'm afraid that if that was too difficult to understand there is no way you are going to understand an explanation of the solution to your problem.

(although one was posted earlier i.e. the link to Winzip),

This is clever little scolding as well as is the assumption that I should automatically understand abbreviations.

It says, you didn’t read the replies, dummy.

My post said that I CAN’T send the file with MSN so Microsoft is obviously a dead end here……..I talked to them first.

I’m looking for an email service that WILL allow me to send the file.

I asked for a toll free Telephone number for a support service.

Thanks for ignoring the content of my post and answering it anyway.

I just told you I speak at least five languages so naturally, here is still another cleaver little way tell me how dumb I am.

“I'm afraid that if that was too difficult to understand”

Well don’t worry I won’t impose upon you anymore.

Re: A Tale of the Searching Fool

I was going to ignore this story, but I just can't anymore.

jmdraft - your issue is not with Microsoft - it's with the size of the file you are trying to send via e-mail. The link that was posted earlier is for a utility called WinZip (nothing to do with Microsoft) that will compress your story file, make it smaller in size, thereby (possibly) allowing you to send it via e-mail. Most e-mail services have a file size limit to prevent the system from becoming choked with large files. Your alternatives are therefore:

1. Use a file compression utility
2. Break up your file into smaller pieces and send it, bit by bit.

Smart comments in reply to people trying to help you, will not work here, or any other forum.

Good luck.

I have WinZip (and http://www.stuffit-deluxe.com/stuffit-mac.html)
and the first thing I did was to compress the file which is a video and can not be broken up.

Would you be interested in suggesting an email service that will send a 37.7 MB Windows Media Audio/Video file?

Such services do exist in great number and that is the problem. I though I might find someone here who has had some experience with them and could maybe suggest one.

Re: A Tale of the Searching Fool

I personally have no experience of any such service. I'm sure though, that there are folks here that will have that experience. The place to start is definitely the MS Forum. Go here

http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...ws-xp-support/

and start a new thread - you may be surprised by the replies.
